Hi all,hope all is well.
Well just woke up and toadstool ripped off from frag plug and on sand bed.( happened at worse possible time as tommorrow morning i go on holiday for 1 week)
If dont want read back story of coral jump to "PLAN" at bottom off page.
So question is it was attached by a really thin rope/string threaded through its base onto a a frag plug ( frag plug was hollowed out so to speak)
I bought the coral about 2-3 weeks ago maybe and first 2 weeks i stood on sand bed giving it less light flow so could aclimintise and as it was shrivvelling up and new to corals i epoxied plug onto rockwork in middle of tank ( still good 12 inch from water level and 15 inch from my 4 bulb t5 lights.
Im thinking was to much flow for the coral as got 2 power heads facing each other and the water hits each other and flows down past the coral.whilst on sand bed it was fully open first 3- 4 days with polyos extended etc but then polyps retracted and i believe started shedding.then moved onto rockwork at slight angle and shrivelled up ( did think at time that worse case could get ripped off as pushing against the string at its base.
The coral doesnt smell bad and still firm to tje touch.

PLAN:

So question is my plan sound as best as can be .
Pulled plug off rockwork.
Clean out what i can off toadstool from centre of frag plug.
Razor blade straight bottom off toadstool.
Wrap 1 or 2 elastic bands over the top of toadstool and around bottom off plug .
Put in a qt/hospital tank i have set up for fish ( never been medicated) and hope it re-attaches over the coming days while im away.
I not tested nitrates/phosphates in this qt tank but im guessing they 0 as been empty and not fed for maybe 5 months ( still kept running though)
I dont think good idea putting stressed toadstool back in dt as im going on holiday as mother in law who coming to feed fish will not pull it out tank if starts melting or if fish srart dying i know for a fact.
Buy some carbon once lfs opens at 11 am in 3 hours and place in some kind mesh net or even pair of tights/ pantyhose i think americans call them.incase toadstool released toxins in tank.
Luckily i have a 15% water change ready to do a wc as plan was wc today anyway.siphon up loose parts of toadstool that on sand.
Sound like a plan ?
Once test qt tank nitrates and phosphates if they 0 then ask mother in law to drop bit if pellet food or clam into tank couple times whilst im away maybe to try elevate nutrients.
Unfortunately not got calcium/magnesium tests.
In dt in last week i checked.....
Nitrates = 20-50 salifert
Phospates= 0.25
Alk= came at i think 7.9 or 8.9 but first time using test so was unaware how fast colour changed pink lol ,re-tested and did slower got full dkh higher ,will try look and change here once moved coral.
Qt lights are really rubbish,a very low small led light just to light tank for the fish but as dont think good idea put in dt,this next best option and got an internal canister filter with sponge and plastic bio balls on qt and internal sponge filter that i removed sponge juat to use for extra flow.
Will clean up frag plug best i can and wrap elastic band around toadstool and put in qt whilst i await an answer and test alk/nitrates/phosphates/amnonia etc in qt.

Also other torches are torch still looking ok and extended/lobo still fluffed up/zoa and paly frag still opened/gsp frags on back wall dying/melting away still from last 1 month ( never really opened back up since cut up and glued on overflow.need anymore info will add when i can, thanks in advance ^_^
Aw also got some mad looking pods that may or may not have burrowed into skeloton of lobo ( videos in last page of my build thread under " lobo with creature in skelotn i think called"

I put mine in a small glass container like a Oui yogurt that has coral sand in it and place away from high water flow. The toadstool will attach to a bunch of the sand then I take it and crazy glue it to a rock or a plug.

I love the Oui containers for various things around the tank. Sounds like another great use!

Ok great thanks for tip.i take it you dont mean fine crushed coral sand which ive got in main dt? I also got a little 1 kg bag of larger crushed coral pieces,i think your meaning this stuff right?
Will sort wc out then sort coral out.its in qt tank now rubberbanded to original frag plug.im unsure if frag plug any good or not,i think lfs should know what they doing so be ok,seems like they either bought plugs like this or hollowed it out.
Qt tank was 5- 10 nitrates.
Phosphate was 0.25
Alk 10.2 ( using instant ocean standard salt)
Amnonia 0 ( api)
Ph 8.2 ( api)
Few pictures just to show plug and coral,as i say toadatool still firm to touch ( shedding alot since cut bottom off with scissors)
I think elastic band maybe to tight as had to double wrap it but will readjust after wc as just want to hold it on and not cut into coral.

So using bag of carbon be a good idea or not needed? ( im going be gone for a week from tommorrow ( will rinse under tap first) 1

Few more pictures of how toadatool looked when bought it then polyps retracted then no picture but it shrivelled up some ( though just getting used to tank and getting ready to shed) then glue plug onto rocks and pretty much stayed shrivelled up since on rocks ( trying to extend a little)

Edit: since bought copperband butterfly fish i been feeding clams/oysters etc and noticed water going cloudy so think from feeding clams but could been some kind bacteeia bloom also possibly idk

Just one more question if i may.
Not sure if can see clear in picture or not but around the edges now when i look at it plus also for last week or so it started looking a little greenish around edges.
Does this indicate dying or just adjysting to my lights.i have white and blue t5's
When bought at lfs it was creamy/ brown like in pictures in this thread above or press on other thread same name above that i shared as started 2 threads same for some reason.

A rubber band will slice through the flesh over time. Use zip ties or string as the tension will not change. Just make sure they are snug
Good idea.will change shortly
As rushing around trying pack suitcase and iron clothes lol and all the last minute rushing preparing for a holiday when leave stuff till last minute.

Well lobo slightly deflated and them spiky things they have when deflated ( part of skeloton i believe) sticking through so hopefully lobo doesn't take turn for worse as not much i can do anyway

Im new so excuse my ignorance but even if use a zip tie wrapped over top of toadstool holding it down,if toadstool tries to inflate, wont this make toadstool rip in half also ?

It’s the constant tension on the rubber band that slowly cuts them in half. A zip tie lacks this tension so it just holds them in place.

Ok cool thanks for info.
I just thought once it attaches it may start to inflate and get bigger especially since lights in qt tank are rubbish like imagine worse ever made lol and as going on holiday for 8 days thought if it attaches and starts to get taller so to speak anything in its way will rip it in half but i never had one before so idk but thankyou for reply, much appreciated ^_^

Well update of leather toadstool which put in qt / observational tank and added crush coral pieces in a plastic cup and cut squares into cup ( 1/2 inch by 1/4 inch so flow could get in the cup and through and over the coral but came back off holiday after 8 days and it melted.

Can see brown on bottom glass and on leaves of the fake plastic plants,qt only got very cheap white led lights built in hood so not ideal for corals and internal canister filter and used internal sponge filter but removed the sponge just to use for flow, ovbiously best place for the coral would of been in the dt but as going on holiday and mother in law would not have removed the coral if started dying i thought would risk it in qt tank as didnt want it dying and possibly releasing toxins in tank and causing domino effect of dying then making other things to struggle then die and no action taken on the tank so had no choice of where i put the toadstool as didnt want risk in dt as didnt know if to much flow made it rip off or if the big massive pods/spider looking/acting things burrowed into the toadstool or started eating it.or water chemistry was the problem.

Ordered frag pack from ebay. This one arrived detached from plug.
Glued using dollar tree super glue gel on different plug.
Doing well. Thinking not enough lighting since it's stretching up pretty good.
Nothing grew from remnants left behind on original plug.
Pics from 08/01/2021 to 10/13/2021.
Came across this thread and thought I'd share mine.
