What is going on with the bottom of the stem. It is dark in color and just doesn't look right.

My nephthea leathers have always done this, I think it is a form of tissue shedding but I'm not entirely sure. I know it comes and goes and doesn't have any lasting effects to the coral itself.

It looks happy and healthy to me, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If the black stuff starts to creep up the base of the skeleton more to the point where you think the entire coral is in jeopardy, you can frag the coral above the black stuff and it should be okay after that and grow back.

Question please, I find You can't glue this stalk to a frag plug it never holds. I used the tooth pic & rubber band method. It's been a long time & I want to remove the rubber band. That's simple enough. What about the tooth pic? should I pull it through or just cut the ends & leave it ? This is a Kenya tree not a leather thanks
I think the OP leather looks fine!

I would pull the tooth pic too. These corals are really hardy. But I wouldn’t want to leave a piece of wood in there that could start to break down/rot and cause an infection
