Tools For Cutting PVC

What's your favorite tool for cutting PVC? I'm looking for a new wretched pipe cutter for pipes 1.5". Anyone have any suggestions of a nice strong one they like.

I've been looking for a reason to get a miter saw.

The pic provided is there a brand or a specific one people like and recommend/suggest?

It's a generic device which I'm sure are all made in the same factory.....get what your hardware store sells. Maybe check what replacement blades they have and get the brand that has replacements available?

The squeeze cutter is one of the handiest, but it's only great on small diameter plumbing. Large diameter is MUCH harder to cut with it, and you need a special larger model to cut actual large PVC. So if you're cutting ≥1.25" PVC, I'd suggest one of the others options.

With miter saws, your options range from simple "cutoff saw" (just like it sounds) to sliding compound models (SCMS). The cutoff saw is the cheapest, only adjustable in one dimension, the traditional horizontal angle. The SCMS is the most versatile, giving you the ability to cut compound meters in variable width material. Brands range from cheap stuff like Harbor Freight or Black & Decker, to Makita, Hitachi, Bosch, Dewalt, etc.

It all really depends on what other stuff you might use it for. In my case, I do general construction and woodworking, so I always buy the most versatile and highest quality power tools. If that is you, I would recommend any of the big brand SCMS, but be prepared for big bucks!

If, on the other hand, you just want a cheap and easy way to easily cut pvc with a power saw, you can pick up a Harbor Freight cutoff saw for something like $50 if you shop sales or their coupons.

And if you are only cutting a few pieces of pvc and are looking for the cheapest solution, the hacksaw is the way to go!

I have a 10" DeWalt miter.
Got it on Craigslist for 80 bucks and it was hardly used.
If you use it on plastic or pvc or aluminum. WEAR GLASSES and make sure blade is spinning full speed before cutting and you can't get a cleaner straight cut.

I wasn’t making a lot of cuts, so I bought a $15 Stanley miter box from Lowe’s. Worked great, cuts like butter with nice clean cuts. The pegs do a good job of keeping the PVC secure for cutting.

This! My saw is up on a shelf out of the way, but nothing is better for square, clean cuts. I have not mastered the skill of making square cuts with the usual ratcheting PVC cutter.

I got a makita 10" sliding miter saw that can cut at angle and also can change the angle of the horizontal cut for $90 on craigslist. It's a few years old yeah, but I put a new blade in it and it is amazing. A new model same brand would be at least $300
