I understand you perfectly, as I have the first Fluval Edge that came out. And agree that scaping was a pain! But the appeal of the fluval edge was the top part, where the water level would go slightly higher due to the small raise on the top glass, making the tank look like a giant cube of clear water, no surface to look at. So when you take the top off, you take off that appeal and basically get a tank, in this case a 12g tall.
I'm not bashing, and apologize if it sounds that way. But I don't understand why you decided to purchase a fluval edge vs just buying a 12g tall since they are essentially the same at this point except the edge costs a lot more.
