I recently got some torches, these being my first I don’t know much about how they come out. I’ve had them since Friday of last week and they have came out a good amount especially the bottom one. It looked as if it was going to bail out/dead as only a couple of tentacles were there. That being said these are as far as they have came out the previous owner had MAJOR issues with cyano and Green Hair.

The PAR in my tank is here:

**Torches are placed on the left side of these pictures where 200 is and then 155 and 142**

When it comes to flow I can’t tell what they like or should I start low and gradually increase? Etc. just need some help.

They do like a decent amount of flow. Not being blasted though. I have found mine like more than not any that’s for sure. A thing to also note is torches come from lagoons with dirtier water so keep your eye on the nutrients if you do not target feed. They are a pretty easy coral once you understand their needs.

The tank looks new, and the corals look like they are busy acclimating to their new environment. This is normal. Leave them alone and don’t try to make everything perfect. They look happy enough and with time they will adjust to the situation and grow accordingly.

LPS like to catch drift food that the fish don’t catch. Light feeding is all they need and over feeding is a source of stress for them, especially when they are new to the tank.

And for the love of Neptune, how have we ever gotten to the point that we think we can dial in coral happiness by setting PAR to a majik number?

The range is important but wide more than precise ime.

You can listen to music quietly or loud and still enjoy the music. PAR has the same features for coral as music does for our ears. We may cover them or strain to hear but we get the benefit when it’s present in a range we can hear.

I also find that stability is really important for torches. They can be touchy if parameters are fluctuating, so make any changes very slowly. New tanks are a bit difficult to keep stable.

How long have you had your tank? As others have said, torches can be picky about parameter swings and hard to care for in new tanks.

They don’t look bad to me. Moderate light, 100-200 I keep mine at 150, and moderate variable flow. Could you list your parameters please?
