One of the heads of our jester died and now a head on the nicks is dying too. Our parameters are good and mostly everything else seems pretty happy.

I don’t know what to do :’(

If you recommend a dip or something please be specific with the product because we’re still pretty new to this.

Second and third photo are the New York Knicks the third photo is the healthy head second photo is the one that’s dying.

It looks as though the head bailed. Did you ever see any brown goo on it? We need your actual parameters. Lighting and flow are very important. I can suggest some treatments when I get the info.

No I never saw brown goop on either of them. When I tested a couple days ago everything was good. I see now that the phosphates and alk is high

Yes alk is a little high and I would bump your nitrates up to 10-15 but if these have been stable it wouldn’t have caused polyps to bail. I would have to assume lighting or flow.

Under 8 alk, torches seem to lose tips. Over 10 alk, they get fussy and can melt. Alk is most likely the issue, and I do see brown ooze on the dead skeleton. Not sure if that was algae, or bjd running its course.

What else do you need?
Just waiting for the parameters.

Any swing in temp at all? Have you dipped them by any chance? Sometimes they can have euphyllia eating flatworms. I like reef primer by polyplab. It’s pretty gentle on corals but melts flatworms, etc.

Agree that the alk is a little high and possibly even Po4. I would shoot for 9 dkh or so if you can. If you are using a high alk salt, maybe switch to a lower alk salt.

Sometimes we lose corals and don’t know exactly why. If everything else is happy then I wouldn’t make a bunch of changes for one coral. If other things are unhappy it’s time to start digging into why.

This here in the red circle looks like a lot of goop, could be brown jelly or algae. Only you'd really know.

I ended up with several frags from a pretty pristine reefer. By pristine, a moonshiner who really dialed in their reef.

They hated me, several died, one left babies behind.

My conclusion...

Some just don't want a new environment.

I’m going to go with Alk as well. When I was away for 9 weeks, 3 weeks before I got home, a light went out on the side that my sps were in. I couldn’t remotely adjust my doser so the alk was dosing as if both lights were on. Needless to say, my Alk gradually went to 11.5 before I was able to get to it. 2 torches jumped. Thankfully they were freebies and my expensive ones decided to stay.
