Hey guys.

I’ve had some torches do well but more recently my ASD melted. I thought maybe my cleaner shrimp ripped it up….but now my 24k is melted and my HG is retracted.

Is it BJD? Time for a cipro tx?

Following on this one as I would like some pointers myself. I have always had a brown thumb when it comes to torches.

Are all the affected torches in the same area?

Sounds typical for BJD. They look fine and in a day or two disintegrated and it slowly makes it way around the LPS. Some close ups of the affected torches would help.

Did you see brown mushy stringy stuff? High flow tank may or may not see it but usually can see some down inside the center of the skeleton. Also usually very stinky if you remove and sniff while there is muck in the skeleton.

Definitely brown mushy stringy stuff. Especially when I tried to suck out some stuff (all my **** is glued like a doofus). It was local for those two torches but I just got hit on the other side of the tank and I gotta take some action.

Im dosing cipro tonight. Had to prescribe it to myself HAHA couldn't get it from my LFS and Chewy requires a vet prescription.

Will be removing my carbon + taking the head off the skimmer (leaving the bubbles + turning up the pump to increase bubbles) + turning off UV light.

I didn't get clear instruction my GFO so I was planning on shutting that down as well. Any thoughts guys?

I need some Excedrin, can you help me out! :face-blowing-a-kiss: :p

Treatment is simple and your skimmer is the biggest challenge once you removed the charcoal, shut off the uv, ect. GL

You haven't posted any parameters and have a fairly new tank which is often difficult for euphyllia. Ciprofloaxin gets dosed at night. Skimmer can be left as is but remove chemical media. 3 doses over a 6 day period. Keep in mind that Ciprofloaxin will kill off good bacteria along with the bad so you might want to confirm BJD first before dosing it. BJD is caused by some parameter being significantly off in the tank which stresses corals and lowrs their immune systems thus allowing BJD to gain hold.

I never bothered with messing with the skimmer. Carbon probably a good plan to remove.

I also dosed much heavier than the treatment procedure and never had any issues with anything in the tank. Another reefer recently did a six day treatment dosing every day. I think I would follow suit and not do the 3 dose with a day in between.

If you can get any of them out of the tank it would be helpful to do a long dip with a higher concentration.

@VintageReefer does a long dip in a bucket with pump, heater etc for infected corals. The in tank treatment will hopefully stop the spread but it might not be enough to save a head that is already infected.

How do the corals look? Is there a nice healthy flesh band around the outside of the skeleton? I think BJD is more likely to hit if it can get into the polyp at the top of the skeleton.

My flesh bands look decent

Sorry parameters can’t believe I missed it. Cross posted this so I must’ve copied from lower in the text

Alk 8.5-8.8
Mag 1325
Ca 440

Nitrate 5
Phos 0.09-0.15

Salinity 1.026
PH 7.8-8 (trouble getting it higher)

I do dose phyto but I stopped using reef roids 2 months ago and I stopped using benereef 1 month ago.

As others mentioned, if it smells foul with brown slime and dead in 24 hours it's probably BJD which primarily hits euphyllia. Frag off dead heads. KFC dip the live coral. BJD indicates something was off for those torches. Numbers are ok. Nitrates is low. Need 10 to 15 for LPS. I would check par and flow for those torches.

They spread out pretty good and are in that line.

Started from 1

I’m a little annoyed I put them in and didn’t think to remove when I redid my rock work

Cipro dose 1 last night

110 gallon total —> should be about 5mL of 10mg/mL cipro.

I dosed 7.5 as a starter dose yesterday and then doing 5s daily for remainder. Will update.

I also adjusted my flow up a smidge.
