Major tornado hit my town and all around us today and tonight. One hit downtown of my city 5 minutes after I left the McDonalds, which got ripped apart. Hotels, banks, grocery stores, food joints, car dealership, schools and more leveled. My house is without power and cell phone service so I had to leave my tanks and head to my moms.

I feel so sick about the people and our town that the tank takes a back seat. We left as well because of more storms coming our way and us not being able to see them coming on radar or anything else. They are saying mass casualties. :(

I am just wandering if you all think my tanks will be ok till tomorrow morning? The temps will keep the tanks warm and not cold, but no water moving. Low stocking of fish in each tank.

Hey rev, sorry to hear that. Your family's safety is the #1 priority right now. As for the tank, it may be ok until the am but you may have some minor losses. At the very least, some corals may brown. Perhaps there are some brave locals who can bring over a Vortech with a battery back up?

One time a power outage and plugged one of my powerheads into an extension that was plugged into a power invertor that had been plugged into my car.

Good luck and stay safe !

Sonny

i hope so bro, i left my brothers tank off for about 15hours before and nothing died but when i walked in the fish were stareing at me begging for some movement.. ihope you and your family are safe, i had tornado touch down in my area a few weeks ago righ when i woke up.. very scary

not to sound crude- but one way to find out. I honestly believe they'll be ok, what I'd say is just be real careful with any area's that have gone anaerobic flushing back into the tank once power gets turned on. If possible (as in if you have time before taking care of the really important things) think of emptying out any of those things (skimmer chambers, canisters, reactors, etc.)

Aww man thats sad but thankful that you were ok. Tornados are so scarry, they don't discriminate. I have forgotten my pumps for a night and its usually ok. Even with no heated water circulating in my system my temps only swing 4 degrees. You will have to check for problems and deal with any new diseases right away before they take hold. Maybe a water change. What is the range of temp swings the tank will experience?

Good luck with everything :)

Sorry to hear Rev. Hope all is well with the people there and your tank.

So sorry for your town Rev we will get our prayer chain at church goin for all of you. And +1 Sonny we did 3 days last July on inverter n charging a car batt every 6 to 8 hrs. Went to hotel and swapped batterys ever so often n took other to charge at hotel. We ran lights 6x39w hot5 8 hrs a day. Ran 2 k3 for flow for bout 14 hrs. Then 1 k3 for 10 n restart the cycle next day. Worked great. Lost kole tang to aggression from the looks of him the last morning of it. God Bless you and the people around you.

Best wishes n prayers
Big Steve n family

Sorry to hear that Rev. I have my tanks on power strips to make it easy to turn off all circulation and return pumps by turning off the power strip. Anyhow, I forgot to turn on two of the tanks and they were completely off for about 28 hours. I never had an issue with any of the coral or tangs that were in the tanks.
I hope that everything works out for everyone in your area. I have been watching the weather and these storms are powerful and causing mass destruction.

Hope your safe and sound over there. I'll be saying a prayer for you and everyone else in the area.

I agree you might have some browning with some sps. I also liked DB's idea with changing out the, reactor, skimmer, and maybe sump water before you restart if possible.

wow glad you and your family are ok, my prayers go out to you and your neighbors. You say the McDonalds got hit man if it is like ours there was alot of people there and kids hope no one was hurt..be careful and take care..
Roger

Man bro.. hoep everything is ok for you and your family.. stay away until its 100% safe. Corals and fish can be replace. Keep us updated. you need anything you know where to find me.

Rev,
I had a tank at work and we had an electrical fire that shut down the power for 4 days. I lost fish, but remarkably the corals made it through. Nothing in that tank was exotic. I would take a cup and swirl the water every now and again.
Best of luck to you and your family.

sorry to hear
this years spring storms have been terrible
watching it on twc now - devasting

+1 on the inverter, during last year's snow storm here, i lost power for a day. pulled my car as close as i could to the house and ran a extension cord to a power head. every few hours i would move it to the other side of the tank. Then i notice my temp dropping so i plugged in my heater and didn't loose anything. Best of luck to you and your family, and hopefully your tank/s will make it.
