Toxic spill monti change

Figured I'd post the changes I've seen in my toxic spill monti over the past couple months. Started with what I presume to be wild colony I nabbed at the LFS for cheap. The colors were faded but i could tell instantly it was just like Tyree's. I had it in my tank for no more than a couple weeks before it bleached to the point I thought it was for sure a goner. As a last ditch effort I gave it a quick dip in freshwater; low and behold a few days later it started to regain it's color. The color came back almost exclusively green and I was worried it lost the purple color, but as the weeks have gone by the purple has come back and started blending. Now it is looking better than ever.

Why did you FW dip it? What is the purpose?

Dipped in coralRX before a couple days before the FW dip but it kept getting worse. I gave the FW dip a shot as a last ditch effort to save it; I was almost certain it was going to die, I don't have a picture before I dipped it unfortunately. Dipped for no more than a minute was closer to 30 sec I think.
