I glued a few color & light sensors to track photo growth. All data is reported in phone / home assistant.

Nannochloropsis:

Thalassiosira (I believe)

Very surprised to see thal outgrowing nanno by quite a bit. Also got Chaetoceros gracilis going on the side, but visibly slower than thal.

Thanks! Big fan of your automation projects and this (eventually will be a phytoplankton turbidostat) is absolutely inspired by your continuous phyto culture designs.

The fact that Thal can replicate this quickly makes me think that under 24hr illumination, Thal could perhaps survive rotifer predation and establish a co-culture? (assuming 30-50% harvest everyday). Seems too wacky to be true but could be interesting to try out.

That’s absolutely genius, I’d be very interested in seeing how everything works if you sharing the idea.
