Transfer Pump - Reef Safe?

Hey all, I picked up this fluid transfer pump a while back as a garage tool impulse buy, never used it. Pulled it out to see if it would be acceptable for transferring water for my tank setup, top offs and water changes. It's nifty, telescopic, would be pretty handy I think.

But, it does list "Do not use for drinking water". The "Main Material" listed under the description are P.P., P.E., ACETAL. I'm not a plastics expert, but this description seems vague to me.

Should I avoid risking it and toss it back in the garage, or? Otherwise my RO water only touches food grade HDPE. Thanks!

I wouldn't use it, but that's me. Automotive applications prolly ain't using reef safe plastic!

That's where I'm leaning.. Would have been super handy for at least my initial setup this week though!

I've been using this same pump to transfer RO for the last year, what would this throw off in the tank?

I'd be more concerned if it were something you were leaving in the tank, then you would have to MAYBE worry about something leeching. But for something you're basically just dipping in and out for a few minutes I'd think it would be fine. Just speculation though.

I ended up relegating this pump to the garage. I was also assuming light use wouldn't have any affect, but why risk it since the plastics involved are not considered "reef safe".

If you were leaving this in your RO water or premixed salt water indefinitely I could see a problem but I wouldn’t think it would leech much of anything in the time it would take to transfer 50 gallons or so my concern would be more with the pump mechanism itself than the plastic.
