Literally waiting for the trident before I set up a reef tank again. Got an Apex still new in the box waiting on the shelf.

Don't wait on the Trident, set that thing up!!! The Trident would have little effect on a new tank, anyway. It's after you've achieved stability and you start adding corals that you'll need the Trident.

People that been in the hobby a while are kinda slow to set up new tanks in general. They call it patience, but it's more of a laissez faire type attitude. The planning and thinking of what will be is half the fun! Lol

I would love to see it adapted to test Nitrate and Phosphate also, two Tridents would look pretty cool sat next to each other, I feel these are 2 things that we are always effecting and are usually just kind of guesstimating how we are changing them, whether that’s carbon dosing, auto water changes, gfo, macro algae-nutrient export etc. Would be incredible insight to see the data of these changes taking place, not sure what’s possible.

Is there anything else other than Nitrate and Phosphate that people would want to auto test? I can’t think of anything else.

That would be nice we call them the big 3 but I in the past few years since I returned into this hobby I see more and more people talk and dose those the other 2 important factors to keep corals healthy nitrates and phosphate, it’s Kinda like the big 5 not 3 lol alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, Nitrates and phosphate. Yes manual testing is fine but automatic testing is better lol.

My guess is after they make a killing on these Tridents...that'd be the next thing they work on is a similar unit to test those two parameters. Other than that...can't really think of anything else that would need to be tested on a daily basis.

However I'm holding off on the home display tank till I've got the trident. Getting me to test my own water is like pulling teeth.
My ultimate goal is to grow out several rainbow tenuis colonies to maturity, and use the Apex programming used at the Steinhart Aquarium in their acropora breeding system. Future of acropora could be designer morphs bred in captivity? Also interested in triggering spawning in some of the LPS too. Sky's the limit.

I already have several rainbow tenuis frags in my neighbor's SPS tank.

Would think K+ is the next most important to test for frequently? Lots of people dose K+ and anybody running zeovit or ULNP system might be dosing it... But that is a tough test.

A nitrate and phosphate would complete my setup. I use a sulphur denitrator for nitrates and dose lanthanum chloride for phosphate so I need to test often to keep things dialed in. Having it automated would be the ultimate setup!! There Terrance, the ultimate idea. I think you should send me a trident to test For the idea lol. My tank is a 560 gallon 10ft acrylic tank that I made myself and it’s loaded with apex gear and I could sure use it :)
