well - at least apple allows anyone to be a beta tester. Judging from what Neptune said - they have a good cross section - which is awesome.

Exactly. What a cool concept, right? They're willing to let their loyalists see something that may not meet expectations because of a mutual understanding and appreciation that benefits both parties

Unpopular devil's advocate post du jour: I'm so confused as to why there hasn't been one press release on the Neptune site ever about the Trident?

Because the product has not yet been released and is still in beta testing. There are plenty of Neptune Systems videos about it.

there ever been a live demonstration of the Trident actually functioning in real time?
All the NSI testers have them functioning in real time. It would be an incredibly boring video or demo - there is pretty much nothing to see.

I know Neptune's HQ rubs elbows with its neighbors in Silicon Valley, which is infamous for raising capital and generating fortunes through 'fake it till ya make it' hype. Let us not forget in his famous iPhone presentation, Steve Jobs used 3 or 4 different iphone prototypes which he switched behind the podium to showcase the iphone's features as the fully functional unit hadn't even been created or proven.

What? Many people in this thread are NSI testers, and have posted about using the Trident, and many have posted about why there isn't much chatter about it here from the NSI group.

There's no doubt in my mind that the Trident started out as a legit project with honest intentions, but I'm almost certain that this disruptive device turned out to be a lot more difficult/expensive to create/productize than expected, and there was too much hype behind it to explain that it may never be completed.

This information has been covered ad nauseam in this thread.

The Trident is great. I am one of the first Beta testers. It works as hoped/advertised, perhaps better.

People bought Apex units and even retired their old ones because the vendors who introduced us to Neptune and educated us about their products, recommended that we do so....over a year ago. It's a bit frustrating that these vendors are not part of this NSI---and are completely in the dark.

I think I speak for all people interested in the product when I say that of every video made in the history of videos about water testing for reef aquariums, this product demo video would easily be the most interesting one ever made.

Yes. That sucked for everyone. However, this has been covered so many times in this thread and elsewhere. I get that you don't know about it, but it is pretty easy to find. If you are a vendor and have questions, I am unsure why you haven't asked the company directly.

You don't speak for everyone. :D
It is great that you want a video of the Trident - but the product is not available yet, so I don't see the utility of such a video at this time. In fact, you talked about what was announced over a year ago and how that was not good, yet somehow you seem to be asking for exactly that to happen again, which seems odd.

I think the Trident is fantastic. I cannot wait for it to be available - I want one for the coral spawning lab I run. I am also thrilled that Neptune has taken the time to get it right before making it available. In an industry of 'put it out and let the paying public test it, we hope it does what we are saying it does', a company holding back a product because it wasn't ready, even though it cause them problems, seems incredibly admirable.

I swear it is danged if you do and danged if you don’t for Neptune. If they would have released it earlier and it had bugs, the community would have torn Neptune apart. Here we are, Neptune is performing in depth testing not only internally but with a subset of the reefing community, and everyone is complaining. I get it. I want it as much as the next guy, but as I have said from the beginning, I would MUCH rather Neptune take longer to release the Trident, perform thorough testing, and ensure their production pipeline is ready for distribution. Don’t you you think Neptune would prefer it to be out and making them money already? People complained they released the Apex 2016 too early and it needed more testing.... then they do that EXACT thing.... well you guys know what happened...

There are plenty of videos of the product up and running on YouTube mostly from exhibitions at reef conventions like macna.
If one wants to see it up and live I suggest goto Macna and see it for yourself.

No one fooled anyone into buying a new apex brain. Marketing and sales are always pushy.
If I am not in the market to buy a Mercedes no sales person gonna stop me from buying a Ford.
If you upgraded then it was solely your own decision based on what you saw and heard. It was your own conclusion and judgment. No vendor forced money out of your pocket. You dished it out.

This is where I disagree a bit. First I'm glad they are testing the heck out of the product before its launched. But - While no one was 'fooled' into buying a new apex brain - there was quite a bit of chatter about how - if you sell your old unit 'now' (months ago) - and then bought the new Apex 2016 unit you would get a much better price from the old unit, etc etc. The main reason for doing so was 'the trident' and other new products.

Of course it was only the individual decision of the person involved - no one accused Neptune of having some kind of Svengali influence over the community. But - my guess is (only a guess) that many people bought a new Apex solely because of the release of the Trident. And at the time - the 'old apex' was far more reliable than the 'new apex'.

When you say 'if you upgraded its was because what you saw and heard' - you're kind of proving the point of the people that feel somewhat 'cheated' because what they heard was that the trident was going to be released. xxxx date - and it didn't happen.

Again - Im glad they are testing - and I don't feel cheated or slighted - I'm not really interested in buying a trident until many others have had it in use for a long period of time.

I agree with you that people bought new apex with the idea in back of their mind that it will work with trident when released.
Great marketing on Neptune side, impulse on hobbyists side.

A little info, not sure if it's already out there or not but I'll throw it out incase.
Trident will ship with full bottles of reagents.
It will come with 1 link cable only.
So if you want to run it on 1 link it's great otherwise if you want to run on aquabus cable (USB looking cable) you will have to purchase aquabus cable and power supply separately.
Reagents are shipped in 2 months supply around $45. Trident itself comes with the lifetime screw caps with a small plastic pipe/tube that leads down into the reagent bottle to draw liquid.
So the lid is permanent and when you get new reagent bottle. Un cap the lid from it and use the lid from trident.

We have all seen the 3d printed model with three bottles in it. All I was saying is that I have never seen it actually do the testing its supposed to do.

This was advertised by authorized dealers of their products. Dealers are responsible for communicating with end users in a distributor business model.

They showed me details on how it works and the interface to program DOS with it.
Its very simple and with out giving away too much, you basically set your alkalinity level and a window of +,- and trident and dos goto work for you it's just that simple. You can choose when you want dos to dose more, say like I want more alk to be dosed at night and more cal in day etc.
