Hi Guys,

There is a software update for the trident np. You can manually calibrate it now. Curious about your results. The advice was to calibrate it with a hannah, do 3 tests and take the average.

So what they should have had from launch. Wonder how long it will hold a consistent result?

Not sure why they did not include it upon launch but I also don't recall if the original Trident offered it. How long it will hold consistent results will vary among us. In my experience it held up well.

Original always did because it came with their calibration solution.

It won't vary. Atleast it shouldn't. If calibrated properly it should maintain accurate results. They shouldn't taper off like they did from launch. The rumor is the reagents are destroying parts and discoloring things like the vial. In my 30ish days owning one I never saw anything like that but what I did see was a constant 0 on phosphates. When compared to 3 other test kits that virtually matched it wasn't even close.

Not sure I understand the new calibration mechanism. If I want to use the calibration solution, do I zero out the values?
Unlike the normal Trident, there are no values on the calibration solution to enter. And if I want to manually adjust the calibration after, won't it run a new calibration if I hit "update" and that toggle is on?

No, the calibration solution that comes with the NP reagents are those values. You only change the values if you are using your own via a series of manual test averaged out.

Well. That's disappointing...Calibrated my NP in January with the calibration solution, and then just did it again tonight. In general it always reports anywhere from 0 to .02 PO4. So I thought I was doing pretty well...And even considered dosing...
Testing with my Hanna tonight and it was flashing 200ppb - which means greater than .6!
I even tested my Hanna with it's calibration solution (100ppb) and it came out to 95ppb, so it seems like the Hanna is just fine.
Now I have to restock the Hanna reagents and start testing a bunch to manually calibrate and see if I can trust the NP again.

Posted this on FB but will share here as well...

Sharing my Trident NP post upgrade experience. I updated yesterday and did my calibration today. My tank tests at 6am every morning and today it was 5.7 nitrate and .03 phosphate. At around 6pm I tested with my Hanna and saw 8.3 and .08 so I went ahead and calibrated to those numbers. After calibration I ran a test with my NP and saw 9.2 and .09 which is pretty close!

Now the real test is if there is any drift over the next few weeks. I'll probably test once or twice a week with my Hanna to compare for now. Overall seems promising at this point.

Trying to set the manual calibration and the minimum nitrate value you can enter is 5.0. Mine is 3.8, so makes it impossible to calibrate until I dose some nitrate...That's an odd restriction.

I had the same issue, and just went with the 5ppm since I am not aiming to be super accurate. After calibration, I still see the same values on the NP window pane as it was this morning before calibration. Do I need to start a new test?

I honestly don't understand this thing....I entered 5ppm for NO3 and .075 for PO4, hit calibrate, let it do its thing on tank water. Then when it was done, I ran a new manual test, and it came up with 46.8 for NO3 and 0 for PO4.

Hi, did you have any joy with this ? I have done the same exact test and my PO3 has come back as 46! I have no idea what is going on with it.

For me, it looks like the firmware on the NP updated, but the Apex did not. All of a sudden, a couple weeks ago, the Apex showed it had an update available. I updated to that and then the NP "worked".
Unfortunately, that was just 2 weeks of working. It showed as 15 NO3 and .03-.04 PO4. Then 2 days ago the NO3 dropped to 0, then back to 15 yesterday. And today, it went back to 87.3 NO3 and 0 PO4.
I really don't trust this thing much at all anymore.

My Phophate test results were way off.

I calibrated with Hannah's, now its on point every time.
I confirmed it with Hannah's.

I think the calibration solution from Neptune is just bad. SMH.

Same problem. My N is like 2 right now and so I have to offset by 3ppm when looking at the N on the trident. So ridiculous...why not just let us put in what the Hanna value is when doing "manual" calibration??

You can do this. They made an update to allow this.

All good, problem solved.

It’s consistently giving you accurate readings the entire life of the reagents? If so you are the first I’ve ever heard say that.
