Hi all
I am completely new to this having just filled my 90 gallon tank and started my sump for the first time this a.m.
I have a corner overflow, currently have one being the drain one being the return. My wife doesn't prefer the water falling from the drain into the sump. I was considering a herbie drain and could do the return line over the back. I have a Trigger Ruby sump and really want to have the option to use filter socks. Has anyone come up with a way to have a herbie drain in this sump AND run filter socks? I havent found any mods (yet) nor can I envision a way to modify it for the same. Thanks for any input.

Regardless of what overflow you use, you will have always have water 'falling' from the drain to the sump. You can make it silent however.
The trigger ruby sump comes with two overflow inputs that have two filter socks holders. You can just use your one overflow drain and one input on your sump. You don't need to use both inputs on your sump. You will just change socks more often, but that's ok.

I imagine in the herbie system because your drain pipe remains underwater it would be quite quiet, just not sure how to use that system while also utilizing a filter sock.

The filter sock is in your sump. The drain pipe will be in your overflow. The water from the drain pipe will be plumbed into a return on your sump. The sock will be in the sump to filter your water.
What trigger sump do you have?

Trigger Ruby. Off the top of my head I THINK it is the 30s
I thought the drain line IN the sump had to remain below the water line within the sump based on the herbie setup although if I am wrong that would remove that concern

This is where you drain will attach. You can extend the pipe inside the filter sock if needed if the pipe is above water.
