I think what you are referring to as a shell is actually the part of the snail that should be coiled inside the shell.That shell doesn’t seem to be a tochus, is the snail still moving? It looks like a freshwater snail
Where do you see a shell?That shell is NOT a trochus. What ever snail that is it’s likely dead now.

I have only seen it once before. My porcupine puffer broke the snail's shell and then promptly ate the snail.Correct...I found an empty shell then I noticed the snail attached to rock...it was still alive and gripping the rock! I got rid of it before it died...most bizarre thing I’ve seen in 10 years of reefing.
