Turnover Rate For Return Pump

Honestly what should be the turnover rate of your return pump if you are running powerheads? How fast should water be flowing through the sump and past the skimmer.

It shouldnt be that fast. provide flow in the tank with power heads. I use a tunze 700gph on my 205 gal tank, I like a quiet return/overflow. Works well for me.

I match my return to my skimmer turnover rate. That gives the skimmer the best contact time possible. IMO

Just preference really I run 3200 through my sump I have a 70 gal cube and still use a closed loop I like huge turn overs personally... Btw mine is dead silent..;)

Flow is another story Lee - can't have enough of that, IMO!

I still flip my sump at a high turn over rate I don't like any thing settling.... Better for skimming IMHO also...
