Was it all you can eat sushi and are they still in business?! ;)
It was not all you can eat... unfortunately. :(

I had a black dragon maki roll, that had crab and smelt roe on the inside with unagi and avocado on the top. Anago, crab and wahoo nigiri. And to finish it all off tako wasabi and uni gunkan. Of course I had to wash all of that down with a Sapporo.

The wahoo was very good, it was bleach white and had a very light flavor. I've had cooked wahoo steaks before but that was my first time having it in sushi form.

Here I am forgetting Sunday again...

Anyway weekly update time. Not much has changed. We went out for sushi! No, not fish tank sushi. Dinner sushi :D. I ate a lot...

The tank seems to be doing really well. I've been using adaptive mode and that seems to be better at keeping the alkalinity more stable. I did lower my dose at the same time as switching to adaptive mode and that has put be a bit low from my target, but its been stable there so that's what I'm after.

We did get a new sushi for the tank. It's a little green leptoseris, I think. A friend gave it to us.

So... I had an itch, and I might have scratched it.

It's a PAIR of ornate leopard wrasse. I saw the two at my LFS and they just had to come home with me. The larger male went and buried in the sand a soon as I released him, but I got a picture of him in the bag. The female stayed out for a minute then buried right beside where the male went. You can see the puff of sand in the last pic and the female nose down about to go in herself.

Thank you and welcome to Sushi Reef to the new comers.

I love leopards, I've had them before, a meleagris and negrosensis. They were in the 90g cube I had before this one. Ornatus is one I've always loved and now I have two of them.
I love leopards, too! I've kept meleagris, negrosensis, kuiteri, bipartitus, and ornatus in the past. Currently I have a negrosensis. She's my only leopard because she won't allow another leopard in the tank.

Wow they didn't take long to adjust to your light schedule
The smaller female has been out all day, staying in the same area but she's swimming and active. Haven't seen the larger one yet. That's the one that I'm pretty sure is at least a sub-male. It's really hard to tell on ornates.

Took a few days but the male finally came out. I was thinking it was him last night when I fed but Mrs Turtle was sure it was the same fish because it looked just like the fish she had already seen. Well, today both are out at the same time so there is no denying it.

Here's about the best picture I can get of the male, at least I'm going to call it a male until I'm corrected by someone more knolwedable than I. I'm horrible at getting pictures of moving targets.

Here are both of them together. They are not very photogenic and swim to the back when I hold the camera up. I'm also getting glare from the windows since it's in the middle of the day.

That's the smaller of the two on top in the dual picture.

Here are some screen shots from a post Evolved made on sexing M. ornatus(one of the hardest wrasse to sex).

Studying on those pictures and that description, is why I was calling the larger one a sub-male. The bars on the gill plates are almost completely connected and the dots on the body are lined up all uniform like, but have not turned into the diamond pattern like the pictured specimen.

Here is the two close ups of them again. They so pretty. (Insert heart eye emoji because R2R is stuck on 1995 online forum text emojis)

No idea. It had been hovering around 8.5, which is fine I'm not chasing numbers that hard, I just want it stable and close to 8.0 where my salt mixes. I get a test that's 9.1 out of the blue and all tests after that were the same. Even flushing the KHD, testing with the solution and confirming it is in calibration, then testing the tank again I got 9.1. The KHD dropped the dose by 1ml until it came back down to 8.5 and then went back to what I programed.
Just a thought: they say that AFR has to be metabolized by microbes before the alkalinity is available or even testable. You may find that if the khd is giving you spikes, it's because it's over dosing AFR before the last dose has been metabolized. Supposedly it is better to dose AFR based on calcium, which is available immediately. No help with a khd I know.

I've seemed to have gotten it stabilized by tweaking how the KHD controls my dose, and by backing off on my programmed dose and doing one other thing.... I'll have more tonight in my update but alk is stable now.
