Two Midas Blennies

Okay to make a long story short.
- I’ve always loved the golden Midas Blenny
- Trustworthy shop gets one in and says it’s a darker blue coloration but will go back to gold when not stressed due to them being in the tank earlier.
- It’s been 3 months and still the same coloration. I do love the fish and the blue-yellow combination is cool.

What I want to know is if I’m able to add another Midas that I know is a gold one. A different LFS has the gold I’ve been wanting, but obviously the health of my current Midas takes precedence if they would just brawl all the time. Tank is a 90 gallon softy/nem tank with other inhabitants than the current Midas.

It’s probably not a good idea. Especially since yours is already established.

From my experience where I kept 6 in a single breeding system, its possible to add more to the system but there are three things that need to be identified and addressed for it to work. If you have all males and one female it can work if there is enough space in the tank. At first the new Midas will find holes near the rest assuming that the area is safe. Once the competition begins for courting, they will need holes that are relatively far away from each other. The other component is size. If all of them are really close to the same size (0.5 inches or less different) then usually they will usually be okay. If one is way bigger than the other, the tank will become a free for all MMA fight club and the smaller one will get really beat up. The final component is if two are females, get rid of one. The second a new female is introduced to a tank with an established female already in the tank, one of them will get bullied to the point they will continue to try and jump out and get away. Once they are all established and tolerate the presence of others you should be fine. My breeding system crashed so I had to relocate all 6 to my large mixed reef tank and they all live in one large rock in the center of the tank and don't fight. (One side note, if a female is present and the males want to court, they will no longer stay gold but turn a cobalt blue. I don't know why but even after being removed from the system I've only had one male turn back to gold. The females will stay gold)
