So my fiancé’s aunt had to move and somehow waited to the absolute last minute to get her belongings out of her house. Like the buyers were moving in while it was being cleared out. So also not planned out was a home for her 10 year old turtle, i don’t even know the species, its yellow lol.

Recommendations for finding a home for a turtle? Its about 5 inches i think a box turtle of some kind. Does not have the same coloring as the ones native here, i am also not a turtle expert, mainly because i never decided on a pet that can out live me.

Oh so annoyed.
Are there turtle rescues?

Bad photo, its in my car as I contemplate where to house a 50 gallon zoo med aquarium that has no stand.

It looks like an eastern box turtle, just a lot of yellow. It’s beak and nails are seriously overgrown though and should be trimmed. If their beaks get too overgrown it can prevent them from being able to eat. It’s common with them in captivity due to being fed a soft diet, similar to puffers. They sell bone chews for turtles so they can keep the beak in check themselves.

I feel like this is a reason to become a hermit. Like why didnt you return my phone call? “Oh i am sorry grandma, my yurt has no electricity, didn’t you get my messenger pigeon?”

A rough surface on the bottom on the enclosure can help with the claws. Bricks or pavers for it to walk on can work if not kept wet all the time. And it could use a bit of substance. I also agree with the bone chew for tortoises, it will help with the beak it has developed. They have a varied diet and are relatively easy to keep. Not sure on rescue groups though.

Ha! I hear ya. I let most calls go to VM just for that reason. If you’re in the natural zone for those guys you can always hang on to it until spring and release it. If not, someone above mentioned seeing if a school wants it. I always had science teachers in grade school that would take on all kinds of critters for the classroom.

Since i do live in its natural range making two calls tomorrow. There is a rescue zoo, i brought an injured bird there once? and a wildlife center within 20 miles of me.
hesitant on a school as it is not one of the 9 reptile species we can own in nj without a permit, and you cant receive a permit without receipt of purchase or documentation like previous hobby permit. I am assuming someone caught it 10 years ago.
Maybe its just me but if decide to care for something that can live for 100 years, 1 know what it is. 2 have some kind of plan for it? who waits two hours before you are leaving to push a turtle on a family member? If this was my family for Christmas she would be receiving something absolutely obnoxious like a giant ugly lawn statue that didnt require a signature for delivery.

There should be a turtle/tortoise rescue in your neck of the woods? We have one out here that has a bunch of fenced in 1/4 acre ponds.
Cheers! Mark
That statue got bigger, theres a turtle rescue in long island, ny. Worst road trip ever, ill get stuck on the L.I.E. There will be no coconuts to make a phone out of, the minnow will somehow crash into a lighthouse...
A three hour tour...

Its okay little buddy! take Ginger and Mary Ann with you. Stuck on an island with those 2 wouldnt be all that bad

Update, one zoo said no.
Species is not native to this area, so must have been purchased. But of course they have no records of the purchase.
Its going to a specialist today to have its beak trimmed.
