I have a 6' x 3' x 2' tank that is approximately 250-270 display gallons. I would like to keep a Unicorn Tang, but I get mixed answers everywhere I look. I understand that these fish get to be absolutely enormous hunks (2ft) I would definitely find a way to rehome one if it did reach that size. Would I be able to keep one in this sized tank? If so until how big would one get before I needed to rehome it? I understand that they do grow fast, but in general how fast do they grow?

I had one many many years back. It's a fantastic fish to watch develop over time. And they have a nice personality. Our tank then was a little smaller than yours and we kept the tang for about 4 years before we found a new home for him with a client of mine. Infact I think a year before we moved him we had already made those arrangements. At the time he had around 10mm of horn growth. I would say that we had him until he was around 8 inches.

Hi!, they tend to grow very fast when they are young. Growth rate varies from tank to tank. I will say don't get it , because you will definitely going to have to re-home the tang. but the hard question is : who is going to take him when he is about 1+ feet long. Most people don't have 400+ gallons.
Is a beautiful fish but ill be sad if you get attached to it and then are forced to give him a new home.

That's probably the most rational answer given the circumstances. I really do want one, but I guess I will have to stray away from that possibility.

Yeah, I probably won’t be doing it since I would get emotionally attached like you said. It would be heartbreaking to suddenly have to rehome such a beautiful creature.
