UNS R75 Build Thread

I jut had an R75 delivered and installed down here in Miami. Im having an issue w the ATO. The float valve desnt seem to cut the water supply from the ATO off when the float valve is completely extended (up). Ive filled the ATO up 3 times and each time its drained within 30 min, and the water level in the sump is super high.

I have the opposite problem with mine. Lol

Thanks! Im a fan of the shelf and lights.

Here is the shelf, Shelf which fits perfectly. You can probably fit another one of the front panel (right side/opposite of the electric cabinet) but i held off on that for now.
Here is the light (battery operated - motion detection) Safe Lights. Not sure this is the best option, but a "safe light" is what I threw in there.

I'd like to find something to use to literally hang accessories such as tongs, nets, etc. somewhere. So far 3M command hooks are the only thing i found but where to put them is a challenge as outside of the stand is the easy spot, but less attractive...

For the ATO, I've struggled but have it somewhat working. Not a huge fan but was thinking it was more user error than design, but now I think it may be more 50/50. My running water level in the refugium chamber is just above the bottom of the top opening going into the return pump chamber, and that has my ATO float valve bracket pegged as high as it can go. I cant dial in the actual float valve to open (add TO water) before my water level gets to be about 2 gallons below where I want it.

I'm still adjusting it, but I wish there was some documentation on how to set it up from UNS because right now, its all manual TO. I also wish it was bigger (maybe 3-4g), since adding water to the container every other isn't very helpful. It looks like it could accommodate a tank at least twice as big as the one that came with the system.

Yeah, my ATO float valve doesn't seem to close. My reservoir just bleeds (profusely) into the return chamber and is empty in ~ 20 min. Super annoying given the price point (and the fact that they were so thoughtful about everything else. The overall build quality of the tank/sump is great, and then to have this flimsy ATO mechanism is super frustrating. And its not easy (more like impossible) to climb under there ad deal w it since its mounted on the front side of the return chamber. Kind of the reason I was leaning AIO over sump situation (I can stand and deal with everything in the back and dont have to crouch down/contort to get under/into the stand/sump area. I know guys have mounted aftermarket ATO's and use external reservoirs to solve for the small resevoir of the R75, and I guess thats something I'll have to look into eventually, but again, for the pricepoint and how well thought out everything else is, very annoying.

That's my same gripe. It's really tough to adjust while having the container hooked up. Not to mention, the plastic thumb screw holding the float valve bracket in place on my system was cross threaded so i had to move my whole tank to get behind my tank so i could get it back into place, which took about an hour of frustration and several colorful words. Fortunately that was between my leak test, and when I added saltwater. I've only recently tried to dial it in and have just had the line discharge directly to my sump using the check valve. I may see if relocating the float to a different chamber is an option so I can access/tweak it a bit more. Curious how others have managed with the UNS ATO or if they went with another solution.

Where did you get that shelf and motion detection light (great idea)? Is the light plug-in or rechargeable? Do you have any issues w the ATO? Mine seems to be dysfunctional.

In what can only be described as a series of significantly unfortunate and mildly ironic series of events, i must suggest proceeding with caution and taking steps to ensure if you use a battery operated light in your stand, to not rely on the velcro strips for attaching it, or to ensure there is no way it can fall directly into the skimmer chamber opening overnight and potentially leach batter chemicals directly to your tank as it did mine last night. We will see if my attempts to save my tank were performed in time, and affective in about 48-72 Im guessing. Wish me luck!

I then noticed the ATO reservoir had completely emptied in the span of about one hour. I went to TopShelf ( had to get a few things) and they have issues with their R90 ATO as well. They said they just keep the valve closed and every so often they open the valve, let it fill ‘some’ then close it again.

I see getting a Tunze ATO in the near future. But like you said, it’s a shame that it’s such a well built system but then have this silly ATO system. Now that my tank is full, dang hard to get back there and see if I can fix it.

I emailed UNS today and will be curious what they have to say. I don’t think a system at this price point should have an issue like this.

Funny! The TSA setup video on YT is where i discovered UNS and the ATO system was one of the features that led me to getting the UNS from TSA.

I've set mine up to drip (as slowly as possible) into the skimmer chamber using the check valve and bypassing the float valve. sadly this is the best i can achieve and will have to adjust based on observations and seasonal temps. so far, the full ATO reservoir lasts about 2 days (filled past the wind so guessing 1.3g).
