From as much research as I have done, there is so much controversy about it, who knows what to believe.

If I can try to put it in a nutshell, what we are collectively discovering is only that nutrients are not as simple as "less is better" or "xxx level is bad" and that "zero nutrients" does exist but is not a good goal. ;)

Hello,

Do you have the orginal orbit marine pro (60 degree lens) or the new ic loop orbit pro? I have the 60 degree ones which also use the dual ramp timer and are substantially more powerful. My tank is 72 long by 34 tall and 24 wide. I have always used two and had amazing results. I have since switched to three. I’m probably going to go back to two of them. It’s just way to much light for my sandy bed corals. The sps just adore it, but running the mixed reef makes it hard. I normally ran on preset 3 but now I’m on preset 4 which is acclimation and I have turned the brights down to 40%. The blues are at 100 still. I’m finding most corals like this except one or two, so I am pretty close.

I'm running the original orbit marine pro lights. They are keeping all of my coral very happy. I also run my on setting #4. I used to use setting #1 but my LPS didn't like the long light cycle. These lights are not easy to find now (at least at a reasonable price). What lights are you getting for your new tank?

Hello,

Yes they are hard to find and still extremely expensive. The dual ramp timers are the worse part. I am now running my lights on preset 4 and have the whites at 40%. I was running two of them and added a third. It’s way way too much, the sps like it but my wellsophylia and tracs are losing color.

Hello friends,

Been super tired, as a point of fact some how I fell asleep on my hardwood floor, as I was looking up at my tank to relax. Now in case nobody knew this, the term hard wood floor is pretty darn accurate. My floor is wood and extremly hard and uncomfortable. I need to invest in a huge huge beam bag, with a soft blankie and pillow. That way when I do fall asleep after a 24 hour work shift, lol it’s not on my hard wood floor. When I woke up I felt as if some one had stuffed me in a trash compactor squished me, then decided to place me on an ironing board and get the wrinkles out. Yes oh I had to many arms and legs and back that was super stiff. But hey lol my fish tank was super mesmerizing and puts me to sleep, which means it’s very quite also. :)
Which is exactly why I put a nice cushy arm chair in front of my tank. It looks pretty ridiculous but I don't really care.

Hello,

Omg okay to all of my fellow reefers out there of both genders. Please for the love of pink tasty marshmallows, and chocolate milk, fish aquarium equipment is not made for the human body. Please don’t not stick body parts (cough cough) in to the long tubes from the protein skimmers. Not only is it embarrassing lol but really makes all the nurses and doctors blush and badly as we remove it. Just a friendly reminder since I adore all on here. If your curious how my morning went well I’ll give you two guesses, butttttt you may only need one. :)

@Fin and @Brew12 omg you have no idea and yes I probably can’t but the person assumed water and suction would be a good thing. Nope, not a good thing. they had to break the air flow tub. Basically If you have seen America pie 2, with poor Jim, and his archnemis super glue, then you get the idea here. As professional as I had to be, it was pretty funny and I was like hey bozo this is not something I would have suggested.

What the heck is an airflow tub? And did they have to break it or break it out? Are you using doctor's code on us deplorables? :)

Omg guys this is a protein skimmer thingy just the one I removed was smaller. If we all need visiuals lol we should sit down with some popcorn, maybe some gummy bears and well for me milk. Then we can watch American pie 2, and when Jim decides to have fun with a clarinet I will pause it. Then I will explain what not to do with a long tube from a protein skimmer. Yes they had to break it off. How they managed this I’m not even sure. But it’s this thingy aka see pic.

Hello,

@Erica-Renee ,

Hmmm let’s ponder this for a moment, ever seen the old version of Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory? Being sucked into a long tube, like Augstus Gloop doesn’t look very fun at all. Plus I have not seen very many Oumpa Lumpas around lately. Not to mention using a large toilet plunger is just sooooo evil on so many levels. It may just have to stay a tad dirty lol. But having an open sump like that has to be pretty easy to clean. I assume that’s in your garage or tank room? I have been strongly considering that with my new 425 build. Stuffing myself underneath 8,000 pounds lol held up by wood just terrifies me. I guess it’s not worse than my 240 but still, it’s small enough, even though I still am the size of a 5th grader I can’t fit under neath there. Well I can easily if I remove the protein skimmer collection cup, and the sump light. But those are there to make sure I’m not underneath it:). See poor Augustus just looks so miserable stuck inside that huge protein skimmer.[/QUOTE

Haaaa .

You put way to much effort into this. Its more then funny on many levels..

Ohh my Sump is in the basement under the Kitchen.. Display tanks are in the Living room and Sun room at the back of the house.

I am lazy so i have water plumbed everywhere.. No moving buckets and i can clean my skimmer in place Close its output and open the drain.. it over flows into the collection cup and out the drain,I actually use a round toilet brush to clean inside of the neck...

I think you would look good in that tube .. You can scrub off the sponges while in there.
