Hello!

Been out of the Hobby for a while due to work/travel but recently got a drilled 75 gallon I was gonna get up and running soon.

I’ve never had a drilled tank and looking at the space, seems like a huge wasted area that I could potentially put something in to help the tank? Does anyone utilize this space for anything? I guessif I lose power it can potentially dry out but wasn’t sure what people do. I tried googling this but couldn’t find the right key words to get back what I was asking.
Added a picture for reference.

It came with a few sponges that wrap around the drain pipe.

With a single durso drain setup, I wouldn't put anything in there.

That's called a tower style overflow. No one puts anything in them that I'm aware of other then plumbing.

Thanks. Should I put the filter pads back around the drain pipe and just clean those like once a week or not needed? Plan to
Have sock filters in the sump.
