Anyone with one have an opinion on Neptune systems Trident NP tester? I have a hard time keeping nutrients up and thought about adding one and dosing nitrate and phosphates.

No knowledge on the controller stuff.

Might be able to help with the N&P issue, if that's of interest....just need some details of the situation. (I don't see a thread for the issue or one that describes your setup in any detail....so let me know.)

I’m looking at buying one. Just wanted an opinion on it. If it works. If it’s just a problem to own. Any useful information about it.

My nutrients want to bottom out. I test daily in order to dose nitrogen and phosphate to keep them up. I’m just thinking a trident np might save me time every day.

I use my Trident NP for trending. I do have my hanna testers for N and P as needed. I cannot vouch for 100% for accuracy yet as it is problematic during rollout.

I am on my 3rd right now. That said when it’s working right I’m happy with it. Also Neptune has not given me any trouble exchanging it with the issues it had.

Do I think they rushed it out with Coralvue talking MAVEN, absolutely. Have I been frustrated when I had the issues with my units, definitely. Have they done everything to make it right, yes.

Could I test with my Hanna’s, yes but this allows for consistency versus me coming up with an excuse about why I didn’t test.

People always complain about the service. They have always responded to my tickets I’ve submitted and even done troubleshooting calls.

I’ve had good experiences w Neptune cs, the few times I’ve needed it. My NP has been very good, trending with my Hanna testing. It’s been off once or twice in past 6m or so, but a quick cal fixed it easily.

Just added the NP to my system about 3 months ago. It’s dead on with my Hannas after they updated the software that caused the out of spec issues. I use the NP to do generalized dosing adjustments on NeoNitro and NeoPhos due to the amount of acros sucking up nutrients. If I don’t, it’s very easy for me to bottom out as well. Very happy now with both Neptunes.

I agree with @gbroadbridge.

You should be able to establish a fairly stable dosing pattern with all that testing, and eventually (within a day or two usually) you have arrived at a stable dose rate that you can correct just periodically with more testing.

I noticed that you Chemicleaned the other day, but I don't see a thread on the nutrient issue or a build thread that I can mine for more info, so I have a question or few (let me know if I missed those threads somehow):

Have you already (as needed) simplified your system so that only live rock at a protein skimmer at used for filtration?

How old is the tank?

Can you give me a summary of how the tank was started?

(Do you want to start a new thread for this info vs having it in your Trident thread? Tag me in if you do.)

I've had two of them.

The NP was very problematic initially and I had no end of trouble at first. I ended up sending it back. It certainly wasn't on the level of the original Trident.

However, it seems like the software updates have done a lot of good. I was a fool enough to try again, and actually my second machine has been doing very well for months now.

I'd still be a little cautious, but it seems to me that that are starting to get it together and I think it will be a useful tool.
