Hello there reefers, so I was told by someone at my LFS to put grease on my bulkhead gaskets before putting them on my tank for a better deal. What are yalls thoughts on this? I watched plenty of videos on installing bulkheads and not one video said to put anything on the gasket prior to putting it on the tank.

Why would you put grease in a tank... I guess if you want to mimic the real ocean with it’s pollutants, than go for it.

I just make sure everything is clean. No grease. I you picked the wrong kind it could attack the gasket and make for an exciting time at some point in the future
in the middle of the night

when you are on vacation.

I’m sure the LFS didn’t actually mean petroleum based grease .... rather silicone based O-ring lubricant. You can put it on the gaskets if you want. Unnecessary though; just make sure they’re debris free,
