I’ve been playing with bulkhead fittings of just about every shape and size for most of my life, and am noticing the glaring lack of standardization more and more…

That is, there are numerous different shapes and styles of bulkheads; often going in and out of stock, changing suppliers, etc… it becomes challenging to get what you need at times!

during my time on R2R, one of the more common plumbing questions I’ve struggle to answer revolves around bulkhead fittings… Typically, trying to hit a target DT drain and/or return rate with restrictive tank bulkhead hole sizes… — a good use case for a “low-profile” type bulkhead fitting!

So, I did a bit of digging on all things bulkhead last night, and have started to compile a list of vendors, fitting styles, hole sizes, etc… I can also add gaskets to that list, as they are the actual water seals…

Currently, R2R’s only bulkhead related sticky thread is a very handy one relative to installation tips, as seen here:

— Would a “bulkhead fitting selection” write-up be something you’d use?

I would love it, for any future plumbing projects.

Also, when I read the title, I thought it was referring to a new alternative to plumbers tape for threaded pipes 😂

Ah, I linked to that in my OP!

It is an excellent installation guide, but doesn’t offer any info on sourcing fittings, selecting flow rates, types of fittings, types of gaskets, and so on!

Hence the realization that such a thing could be quite beneficial, vs. digging through the search function hoping someone else had the same plumbing problem you do!

Also, when I read the title, I thought it was referring to a new alternative to plumbers tape for threaded pipes 😂

Haha now that you say that, I see what you mean! 🤣
