UV sterilizer AIO Reef Aquarium

Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday. I’ve been researching a small UV sterilizer I could put into the over flow chamber , found one cheap on Amazon. Don’t care about blub replacement. Just want it to help with parasites. Recently got a bug from a blue tang the size of a quarter lost all my fish and guess what the blue tang lives and is healthy when it looked the worst ick plus black spotts everywhere . Feeding him green and purple seaweed that fish don’t mind the color lol. Healthy as can be . But took out 2 designer paired clowns , wrasse , and my most favorite bi-color blenny . This Tang was purchased at the local fish store they so call said they had it acclimated in copper before display tank . Back in Miami Florida I never had an issue similar to this . Guess we can say I am trying to do preventative maintenance, any how what are your thoughts on this 11w UV it’s 10” and will be connected to a pump real soon. My AIO is a 40 gallon long .

I have a 18w turbo twist on my 25 gal aio, i have a pump in the return chamber. Works wonderful. 11w seems kind of small for a 40gal.

absolutely. i would never get a rated unit. After my experience with the 18w, I have crystal clear water and i dont QT anything and i have never had ich ect. A overrated unit will not hurt anything. If i could i would get a 25w.

i think its under rated for 50-75 gal, for that size i would go with 25w.

i would go minimum 18w

I got a reliable HOB for my quarantine tank I wanna say it’s called “AQUA UV” maybe….BRS and SWA both sell it. It’s a “name brand” with replacement bulbs
