I think it destroys the bottom of the food chain which effects a lot of things you don't directly feed.

and perhaps a lot of people dont see the effect because they haven't sized the UV big enough and got the flow right so it can kill ich.
I dont strain my water through filters. I have 2 skimmers and some reactors.
Anyway I am happier since I removed it and the fun little things came back.
Try dosing silicate. With my uv pods explode when dosing silicate. Its a 90w uv.

I'm sure it does have an impact on the tank, to be sure. I'm not sure if one could ever really quantify it though. I'm sure my reef would be better without a UV; my fish, not so much.

If it floats in the water its destroyed easily. Green phyto is gone in 2 days, dinos 2 days etc. If pods need phyto, then a uv will reduce their numbers. Good thing is diatoms feed pods and live on the glass and rocks too.

I am most worried about Vibrio/brown jelly. After speaking to a few coral farmers they told me that this is the main reason they run UV. I really don't think pods are significantly affected when running the high algae/bacterial flow rate.
