Uv sterilizer

Hey all what’s the best way I can hook up my uv sterilizer. I have it connected to a separate pump but not sure where to put input and output. I tried putting pump in middle section of sump since its area where it doesn’t drain too fast and the output in my return chamber. Had it like that for a day and didn’t realize my ato wasn’t kicking in so had a huge salinity spike. Thankfully everything seems okay. Not sure if it’s because of the water flowing in but that it would be okay. Is that an option I just need to make sure it works first? What’s other options I can, maybe put output in middle of baffle before return chamber. I can’t run it in line and closed loop would be difficult. Thanks for the help
 
Can I still have the output sorta in the same chamber as input or will that still just be recycling the same water and pointless. If I put pump in chamber as skimmer it drains water too fast. Sump isn’t super large. Ideally I could have a manifold but not possible with this setup

its not ideal, but it works. Far better than nothing, and better than messing with your return chamber.

I thought it was simpler and easier to do it through the return pump, not separate, so that is what I did.
 
For me the input of my UVS is next to the filter roller and the output is in the return pump section. I have a separate pump pushing the water through the UVS.
 
I have my input pump in my skimmer section of my sump and output in return section. You may need to adjust the flow in and out of your sump to compensate for the UV, along with adjusting the ATO sensor.
 
I'm not after parasites, I am looking at a high flow through my UV, this keeps anything (algae) from coming from my sump into my DT. My return pump line goes trough my UV

I tried that but it pulls water out of skimmer chamber too fast all it only holds probably around 8 gallons or so and hold extra media and heaters. Flow rate probably sits around 50-60 gallons for uv. Could I switch them and move skimmer to next chamber and uv pump and first and try to keep water level even there or just put output in return agian and regularly test salinity to make sure ato still working

I wish I could do that but way sump and plumbing is designed way to far along to make that change. In future with any upgrades eventually I’ll definitely think of that option

Im assuming this is hard / pvc plumbing?

I switched to vinyl tubing for way more flexibility and clamps :)
 
Yes it is figured way sump is positioned would be easier. Didn’t get uv until recently so way to late to change it lol

You're only targeting the display, so "ideally" it will be drawing from the display and returning to the display. (It might even be ideal for it to draw off the bottom.) That's not always practical. Try to return to the display at least.

You're only targeting the display, so "ideally" it will be drawing from the display and returning to the display. (It might even be ideal for it to draw off the bottom.) That's not always practical. Try to return to the display at least.
That is what I was thinking. Keep it separate makes it easier to replace bulb, etc. Wouldn't take that big of a pump to just circulate to and from the tank.

Assuming you have a standard sump and skimmer setup, where the skimmer output is the same chamber as the skimmer input:

If the uv pump is pulling water faster than it’s replaced, this means the uv flow rate is greater than the return pump flow rate. Your options are to turn down the uv flow, turn up the return flow, or have the uv outlet and inlet in the same chamber.

Another thing, the uv and its plumbing will hold water volume. Depending on how big your system is that may be noticeable enough to have an impact on your sump water level. Just like evaporation, this would most likely be noticed first in the return pump chamber assuming proper baffle setup.
