Valentini puffer and corals?

My first tank was a 40 gallon, and only had soft corals, and my valentini puffer never touched any of them. I upgraded to a 220 and that same puffer was moved over to the new tank, which had an even larger assortment of soft corals and many other types and he never touched anything. Unfortunately he got spooked one night and jumped before I had my lids constructed. He died and was later replaced and even he successor has never touched a coral.

We had ours for about 5 years before he jumped and I found him on the ground about 6 months ago. He wouldn't touch any soft corals, but would periodically nip at the montipora, especially when I would add a new frag in the system. He was always coming over for a taste. For the longest time I thought he was nipping at our acans, but it turned out to be a combination of our foxface and fowler tang doing the damage.

These guys have awesome personality and he was always up towards the top looking for food. Good luck.

My 2 year old valentini puffer is a sweet little thing! Never bothered the coral, shrimp or crabs….can’t have snails though! He does enjoy eating snails - even follows me when I clean the sand encase any little snails get turned over to the surface. Other than that he’s a great little guy with a wonderful character

While I’ve never kept one personally, I have seen some in soft coral tanks. I’m not sure if they’d munch on the skeleton of the LPS corals. @HotRocks or @4FordFamily may know as they keep many types of puffers.

I have a blue spotted puffer, and he's great with other tank mates and leaves my softies and even my inverts alone, but just thinks my previously beautiful Acans are absolutely scrumptious. Strangely enough, he leaves my other LPS alone too...

Puffers are beautiful fish and really neat to watch; just make sure to give them plenty of meaty foods and alternatives to munch their teeth on.

These fish are nippers and will go after some softies and any sps with polyps especially if food lands on surfaces

As the title says, how do valentini puffers do with soft and lps corals? And is there a way to introduce them to greater increase my odds of success? The tank is a 40 breeder btw

I’ve had a Valentino puffer because my wife had to have it it’s not the corals I’d say he eats even tho I have had some missing Zoas. But never observed him eating them it’s the clean up crew he munches everytime I’m at the lfs I need to grab more crabs he’s eating snails and hermits no matter how well I feed the tank
