Soooo yeah had a nightmare the last week. And have no clue why
my water parameters have been stable ,
Only been testing ammonia , nitrite , nitrate , salinity , ph
Which has all sat around these marks for last 2 months odd , tank is about 4 months old now . I do 10% water change a week but since been having problems been doing about 25/35 % water change every 5 days.
Ph: 8.3
Ammonia: 0.0
Nitrite: 0.0
Nitrate: 5.0/10.0
Salinity 1.023
Inhabitants:
One skunk cleaner shrimp
3 electric blue hermits
1 scarlet hermit
1 frogspawn coral
1 toadstall coral
1 Rasta Zoa
2 black clownfish
1 coral beauty (angelfish)
I had two clown fish from start (done cycle with) they suffered abit of fin rot through the cycle , nothing major and both recovered fine without medication, as it was very minor .
Went a month without ammonia or nitirite so I decide to add a coral beauty angel fish a couple corals and some clean up crew.
The beauty done well for the first week no visible signs or behaviour change , then one morning I woke up and the beauty wouldn’t stop hiding in the rocks so I thought something might be up , I checked waters and everything seemed fine so I thought something maybe she was getting bullied by the clownfish and they like to fight each other , but never see any evidence of this so …… about two days later the coral buety pectoral fins started to show cloudy spots (as coral beauty have clear pectoral fins with yellow lines) you could see the cloudy mark on the fin . Two days after that the fins where frayed and the fish was covered in white spots too many to count , (assumed it was velvet).
The whole time through this process my crabs , shrimp & coral are all thrieving , my zoa + frogspawn has double in size since I’ve had them(about a month) my toadstall hasn’t opened right in about a week but I’m suspecting it is shedding as no other corals or inverts and showing signs of stress .
Panicking now as have no qt tank , went to lfs they advised reef roids medic . Done a 2 week cycle , and the coral lost all white spots + fins looked better , clowns still had no signs .
Literally the next day I woke up , still on medication was the last day of a 2 week cycle . Beauty coral got worse wouldn’t swim properly and the clown now was covered in white spots. In the space of 24hours was seemingly over to the whole tank was on life support .
A week went past and lost the coral beauty and both clowns
I feel horrible but I don’t know where to go from now as I still have inhabitants in the tank and don’t wanna strip it down and re cycle
any thoughts on how I should go around this without risk of reinfecting inhabitants .
