Edison shut the power off at 800am this morning for expected 7 hours due to their maintenance. I'm not home till the afternoon. I hope the back up battery works. I have it connected to my return pump and one powerhead and I have a battery operated airstone running to. Just hope when I get home that things are OK. Would hate to have system failures hurt my fish. Fingers crossed.

Whats the temp like in the house? If you have an airstone running you should be fine. I have run my reef for 3+ days on nothing but an airstone with no losses.

Most likely everything will be alright especially if you backup system runs for a bit. I would chill and not sweat it. Edison is notorious for calling a fix 7 hours and finish in 3 or 4 most times. When they do the scheduled maintenance outages I fire up the generator and plug the tank into it for piece of mind just in case it goes longer.

I've had to run battery powered air stones for almost 10 hours myself. Everything turned out just fine. I believe I had a thread about the same concerns a few years back. I just returned to reef keeping so not sure how to link it here.

I got a letter about upgrades in my area. Suppose to do it this week. I called and luckily they said when it goes out it would be less than 30 minutes each time.
Good luck to you, hope it is just short periods like I was told.

So I just got home and checked stuff. Most fish are hiding since tank is not lit. It looks like when ecotech stuff go into back up battery power mode they default to very low intensity settings. My MP40 is barely putting out flow but it is working and my vectra pump was doing the same thing. The return chamber was only half full when I got home. It's kind of like the pump and wavemaker are in low speed feed mode operation.

I didn't expect this so I hope one airstone is enough surface agitation for 02. I thought the MP40 would continue at 48% intensity nicely agitating the water but it's barely doing anything.

Wonder if the water got to low for my pump in the return chamber? The down flow return pipe was gurgling water. My pump seemed to be submerged but just barely. Hope that didn't get damaged. I put the second MP40 online with the back up batter instead of the return pump. Flow in the tank seems much better now.

No power yet?
Return pumps suck the battery down quick. One wave maker should be enough as long as the surface is agitating.
No and I had to leave back to the hospital. It sucks to get old. I should get 10 or 12 hours battery life with 2 components connected.

if comforting, 70 degrees and the fact it has gradually dropped to 70 is higher temps during transport of livestock that are bagged and in transit 26-30 hours. I had an outage 3 years ago in fall, and no power for 13 hours, tank dropped to 68 and all fared well.
If youre able to, grab some hand warmers or better yet. . foot warmers (sporting goods) and shake to activate and tape with Blue tape to all sides of the tank- It warm things up for you and if it wmart sporting goods, might as well get a battery operated pump that comes with airstone for about $10 and you got an emergency kit for about $20
