Me and the sons are getting a little bored with the reef tank (often happens this time of year), so we've decided to build a large vivarium to keep plants and dart frogs. I built a plywood reef tank back in the late '90's, so this will be the approach we follow here. Vivarium will be nominally 230 gallons - most of which is air of course. Progress picture as progress occurs; for now, here's the old reef tank.

Sounds like an awesome project, following along for sure! I've always thought about making one but gotta get the reef tank wet first lol I'm only allowed one project at a time.;Shifty

Nice. I use to breed dart frogs. I greatly downsized to focus on marine though. All I have left is azureus and orange terribilis.

look forward to the progress

Yeah, they are very cool. Been keeping them in a small tank for years - though mine have never bred. Here's the start ….

Wow this is going to be so cool, it’s much bigger than any I’ve seen outside of a zoo! My buddy has a small one, they are pretty amazing.

Azureus are my favorite even though they're so common, but terribilis are right there with them

What kind of frogs do you have or wanting?

I've only ever kept tincs. Although I know it to be generally frowned upon, I am hoping this viv will be big enough to keep a mix.

Personally it doesn't bother me like it does most dart keepers. Now if you mentioned this somewhere like dendroboard they'd be calling be calling for your head.

I'm assuming you know about female aggression in tincs as long as you keep the group male heavy you should have enough room for coexistence

Yeah, just goofing .....

I’m going to have a water feature on the vivarium but I want the level to be consistent so I figured a sump could do that just like it does on a reef tank. May even have an ATO.

Sweet! Love dendrobates! I finally had a chance to see them wild in the jungles of Costa Rica last year.

That must have been very cool. I guess they’d be poisonous too ....

I didn't get close enough to lick them. [emoji23] It was a very cool experience, it was raining in the rainforest and it was during their dry season. I missed the tree viper, which was something else that I wanted to see there. [emoji3525]
