I’m considering replacing my old mp10’s with 40’s. My vortech are really noisy and my question is are the QD’s really quiet or should I expect the whirling noises? I need it virtually in audible because the tank is in a room that requires it to be inaudible. I’m tired of the noise but love the pump so I’m torn.

Yes, the QDs are very quiet. I have 2 MP40s that does not make any noise; you can only hear the noise if you are right next to them.

I am running a Quite Drive Mp10 on my Nano tank it is quite but it is not silent.. Maybe you should consider the Ai Nero 5 I am running two of them on 50gal cube it is truly silent and it puts out identical flow to the MP 40 AND IT COST $199.00!!!

Agree that mp40’s are nearly silent. The QD’s are much quieter than the earlier versions.

The QD are very quite, and unless your up next to them you are not going to hear them.

+1 for MP40s. I'm running two. No worse than a slight vibration if you're close.

I have two MP10WQD'S on my 50 lagoon and if I ramp them up beyond 65% you can start to hear it. It isn't that big of a deal for me but they are pretty silent on smaller tanks. My glass thickness is on the max recommended.
But as someone mentioned the neros are extremely quiete. I can ramp them up to 100% and hear nothing at all. They are also small and can go up to 3K GPH i believe.
