I've been using PolyFil on everything from a 5 gallon reef to a 125 gallon reef with no problems that I've noticed.

He said that it was bound to have harmful chemicals in it that will leech of into the tank, I said that I have used it for years and never seen any side effects what so ever.

tell him the chemicals make your corals hulk out and grow bigger

There is a version with fire retardant in it, I wouldn’t use that one. The plain polyfil is fine.
Made by Fairfield?
From Fairfield Site:
Are Fairfield’s Products Flame Retardant?
Fairfield’s does not chemically treat its products to prohibit burning. 100% polyester products are flame retardant by nature because they will not burn unless they are in direct contact with a flame. Fairfield products made from, or blended with, natural fibers are not flame retardant, nor have they been treated for flame resistance.

Not sure about this particular brand. My wife sews, and I’ve seen some listed as having an added fire retardant. I wouldn’t use just check the label and make sure nothing else is added.

I used to use it but the last time I went to buy it it stated it was made from recycled materials so I didn't buy it. Maybe it's nothing but it didn't used to say it was made from recycled material. I figure if it's recycled I really haveI idea what's in it but that's just me with no facts that it's bad.

thanks, I may try to find some cups for my sump and give it a shot.
Depending on the tank/sump, there are several members here that print cups.

I use blue bonded pad, white on one side blue on the other. Koral filters sells a roll 16”x6 ft pretty cheap. I cut to fit. It allows for cleaning and reusing, the blue part holds it together so it doesn’t fall apart.

We use those on machinery to filter the electric cabinets.
That blue stuff is sprayed on by the looks. So it's okay to use?

does everyone use this in place of filter socks or as well as socks?
I have a filter cup that fits into my sock holder and just stuff a few wads of polyfill into the cup. Way easier to deal with than the socks. Been using it for five years on my tank without an issue.
