Well I have been keeping sps now for about 2 yrs started out w/th frags and now i have some real nice colonies.. My problem is i have a Pearl Berry that i have had for over a yr it is a base ball size pcs.. About 2 wks ago i swapped my 2 Koralia 3's for 2 Koralia 4's i did this because i had the 4's and i thought w/th everything alot bigger that the more flow would get through the colonies better.. I left a few days after putting the new pumps in for a wk and when i got home the Pearl Berry had a brown slime in the center of it.. I blew the slime off w/th a baster but the branches had turned almost all white..

That was last night when i got home now today the brown slime is back in the center again and more branches look white !!!!!!! No other coral looks bad just that one i thought at first maybe the new pumps had some slime on them and blew it on the coral and maybe had bleached from the slime on it , But today the slime is back and i dont see it any where else in the tank..

If it helps a have a 65g and the Koralia pumps came out of somebody elses tank..

Do you think it is to much flow on that coral and it is killing it or do you think something else is happened..Nothing has changed other than new pumps...

you have now seen whats called the brown jelly disese so many say only effects soft or leather corals .
yes sps can also get it and its deadly.
if any of it came lose and lands on another coral it to will perish there is not anything you can do to save the colony except maybe a few frags well above the slime but most cases is a total loss of the colony .
i run a farm and have seen it twice in a colony or so .
best to turn off all flow and very easily take a net and pull the colony with out losing any of the slime.
it has now been seen in 2 reefs where the sps are infected with a lose of the colony in 2 days and even faster .

I just stopped the pumps and looked at it from the top down and the whole middle of the colony is already dead.. I thought about a better way to describe it you know how when 2 sps grow into each other and the weaker one will die off and turn white and then a couple of days later the dead part will start to turn brown thats what it looks like in the middle of the colony.. Its not that slimey just like the flesh has turned brown and pealing off.. You can't blow it all off

I went ahead and removed the colony to a location in the bottom of the tank and fragged a few good branches but now you have me worried that i need to take it all the way out

if its just rtning that to can lead to other corals starting to do the same thing the best is to frag the good off and remove the rest completly.
one good thing its not the brown jelly its more lethal faster and rtn is lethal as well just a little slower .
but it will lead to other corals if you dont remove it .

if you have too much flow on some peices they will get a powerhead burn. its like getting wind burn from us. so when the flesh rots from the burn you'll get the algae from that.
