Merry Christmas to me! A regal angelfish that eats! So far he really only likes LRS. Everything else gets only a peck or is refused. He is still in quarantine til I’m confident he will eat fast enough in the display tank. All my fish in there are ravenous when it comes to feeding time.

I love the misbar too. That was a nice bonus.

There’s always something... I promoted the regal to the display tank since he has been eating so well. The desjardini that I rescued from a local reefer has not taken so lightly to the new guest. I am going to need to catch him and demote him to the frag tank.

Desjardini tang < regal angelfish

I’m also concerned that the desjardini will go aggro on a copperband that I have in QT.

Update: got him! Ended up changing my lighting to all red at night. He could still see, but not as well. Eventually, he accidentally swam into the net!

Latest fish additions

Misbar yellow belly regal. He’s got a little lympho from QT stress, but he made it out and he is eating LRS!

Majestic angel. This guy is tiny and he is a little beaten up from QT.

A flame wrasse at last. Now I just need a lineatus that doesn’t have uronema... I’ve had 2 die from it this year. Let’s hope 2019 is better. Of course, my best picture of this jordani fairy wrasse is right behind my reminder of one of my new frags.

Walt Disney in the center. BC Rainbows in Spain on the left. I saved that from all of 2-3 polyps. It had an AEFW infestation.

I’m going to need to move this Goni. It is getting quite large!

Hi. How do you like the Orphek ORs. Could they be considered for a 60x30x20? Would you be able to post a video on them? Your build is looking awesome and great choice of live stock. I also have a Crystal Dynamic Tank, but mine is still in the early stages. About 3 months that it’s been up and running.

Thanks

I like the sky blue, and my custom bar. I’m not crazy about the UV and I really dislike the reef daylight. The UV is just too much dedicated UV. I prefer it mixed in with other blues. The reef daylight is pretty awful if you mount it within 2 feet of the water. You get major disco. Totally unusable for video. That’s the main reason I have not shot a video on my frag tank. The reef daylight bar is just horrible for it.

I absolutely love custom bars though. The hardware is nice and so is finish. I prefer these over any other LED bars. I may swap the reef daylight and UV for something like the Noopysche or Kessil 360x at some point in 2019. After I can’t take the disco ball anymore...

This is so stressful watching my regal feed in the display. The rest of my fish act like they have not been fed in weeks. They’re ravenous. Meanwhile, the regal might eat what floats by him. I hope he starts eating like he was in QT, otherwise this may turn into a failed attempt. If I see him getting skinny, I may move him back into observation.

Water change time! My salinity is getting low because of my skimmer. Everything it takes out is replaced with RODI. Time to get salinity back on track. It was 1.024-1.025.

This guy was entangled in chaeto. Glad I had gloves on!

That’s a gnarly worm! I wonder if you could make some type of feeding device like people do for copperbands for the regal so it gets its share?
Love your tank! Awesome collection of fish!

Thanks! My other unicorn fish is in QT and is done. It’s a copperband that is eating vigorously. He’s hilarious. He swims against the glass and wags his head when he sees me. Eats everything I put in! Clams are the funniest because he goes bonkers and makes little teeth grinding noises. I’m trying to capture it on video before I promote him to the DT.

As far as the regal goes, he’s nipping at a few things. I bought a TLF pouchfeeder. I’ll see if that helps with the LRS feeding in the big tank. No way my wife is going to load that thing up with food while I’m away though. I prep about 14 bottles of food, which consists of LRS, Hikari mysis (smaller), and PE mysis. Sometimes I add other things too. Like fish eggs, clams, or other prepared foods. 1 bottle gives all my tanks a good feeding.

Ouch. I think a leopard wrasse took my RMF Acid Trip frag to bed as a pillow. It’s nowhere to be found. I can’t go digging around since everyone is asleep now. Sigh.

Upgraded my calcium reactor regulator. I wasn’t able to dial it in to low enough levels before. Now the solenoid stays open for a few hours, which I like because I can adjust the PH level to increase dose as needed instead of changing the flow through the peristaltic pump.

The big change is the low flow needle valve and the low pressure gauge that reads at a much lower scale. I can now accurately set it to 3 psi.

This needle valve is really nice. Also way pricey. If I knew I was going to be in this deep on the regulator, I might have started with the carbon doser. It is what it is though, and the system now works incredibly well.
