My water is not crystal clear. I run a reefmat, uv sterilizer and a protein skimmer yet I still see particles in the water column. I’ve tried coral snow with no improvements. I’m wonder what you have used to clear up the water column?

Ozone is said to be the go to for crystal clear water. It literally breaks down the organic molecules that cause the water to be cloudy 🙂

Best of luck!

+1 on ozone. I love how clear my water is. This is looking across a 6’ tank.

I run water in my sump through a 20 and 5 micron sediment filter. Have it running on a timer to do it at night. Clears it up quite nicely.

I switch to two 200 micron or put some filter floss in your socks right now

I used to have particles in my water column and then I saw a thread on this about about the subject. The recommendation was to reduce return pump intensity to give the water more line to linger and get filtered out by the equipment in the sump.

I’m going to look into this. Thank you

How do you know how much/how often to use ozone? I use it for an hour and half a night through my skimmer. It has reduced the yellow in my water but not made it crystal clear

I would use a flocculant. This is what I use from Amazon:

Flocculants like this bind to stuff in the water column and then it gets filtered out as long as you're running a filter sock or some kind of mechanical filtration.

Ozone properly applied will give you crystal clear water.

Diatom filter or a Home Made 5 micron filter.

For the diy 5 micron.- what exactly would you buy? The same stuff as the RO or would you buy -say the BRS reactor for gfo and run a pump to it?

It's just the 5 micron water filter cartridge from Amazon

Aquaboon 5 Micron 10x2.5 Whole House Pleated Sediment Filter Cartridge for Well Water Filter Replacement Compatible with WFPFC3002, WHKF-WHPL, 4-Pack

Lets "roll" back a bit here....

you're using the RS rollermat and your water is not clean and clear?
i'd focus on that rollermat - your water might be passing it too quickly (?)
not to mention.. it beats the purpose of having a rollermat and waste of money imo.
