Your brown Hair is new tank you will also see diatoms.
Can you tell me the width and length of this tank. I’m going from either to this or a Red Red Sea 170 which I really don want ro go smaller ( I have a 45 gal AIO tank that I converted to have a sump) I will not use the sump that comes with this tank but a trigger system cube that is 18 by 18
Thanks

Hi,
The tank is a 24”x24”x24” cube. I think it is bigger than the 170.

I have also been experimenting with SPS. I have had my ups and downs, but so far losses have been small. A few close calls though.

Hey im curious how you have that fan mounted? Did you clip it right to the rms mount? Where did you buy the fan?

Your correct. Works like a charm. Keeps the tank’s temperature pretty well. I have it hooked up to the Apex so it goes on when the temperature is high. It pretty much cycles all day long from the heat coming off the pumps.

I have one of those cheap aquarium fans off amazon on my apex as well. It might not cut it this summer. Where did you buy the one you have?

This one is a cheap Amazon as well. I bought a couple just in case this one burns out. Heck, if I get a year I will be happy.

Here are a couple of recent pics of the tank. I have been battling bryopsis (came in on a frag). Used Reef Flux in January. It seemed to work, but the coral suffered and it all came back as soon as the treatment was over. Because of the raised nutrient from the die off, GHA took off (sigh). Been trying elevated calcium and Vibrant both of which are sustainable. Lots of manual removal too.

Now that everything seems to be going good, I want a bigger tank [emoji3]. Been eyeing the 72x24x24 size. Crystal Dynamics is sweet, but Waterbox is significantly more affordable. Going to be checking out the deals at #reefapalooza in Cali in a couple of weeks. Anyone going?

I continue to make progress on the bryopsis. So far, there is non to be found. I have raised magnesium to 1650, and used vibrant for a while. Then red cyano invaded. Stopped the vibrant and everything else. Then decided to try Dr. Tim’s cyano recipe (2 doses of Refresh every other day then 2 doses of Waste Away every other day, did this for two cycles). Well that didn’t work. <sigh>. I stopped that and am now dosing H2O2 (1 ml / 10 g every 12 h) Happily, that is working :). The cyano is starting to clear up. The tank is pretty clear of algae too. Even though Dr. Tim’s did not help on the cyano, I think it took the cleanliness of the tank to the next level. Hopefully I have turned a corner.

The Japanese Pink Nepthea needs trimming again. Going to frag it out and sell locally. Not enough money to be noticed on the new build, but every penny counts.

Here are some pics.

Beautiful tank man! I do have a random question - do you have any info(name/model/etc) for the Ikea units you're using on the side? I'm looking for something similar in black for my new 60g cube setup. Those look really clean and should pass the wife approval test :)

Hi, The IKEA unit is actually a bathroom wall cabinet that I DYI’d. I think the model is LILLÅNGEN Wall cabinet, white, 15 3/4x8 1/4x25 1/4". I bought the legs as well at IKEA although they don’t necessarily belong to this cabinet. I have the electrical in one side and there is a matching unit on the other that I have a UV in. Works great considering how limiting the space is under tank. The Sump takes up pretty much all of the room. Hope this helps.

Build is looking good. I have a small waterbox 35.1 (22gallon with 10 gallon sump). I really like it, it’s been cycling for two months. I also have an apex for it and really like that cabinet you got. Did you drill holes for chords or were they already There? Do you have a link or name of this cabinet. I live close to an IKEA also but finding a specific cabinet without the id number is almost impossible In that place.
