I have a first wave 78 and a jecod sow 3 and I’m struggling with a placement that suits my two young clowns. The return pump is in the front left top corner, with the wave maker in the opposite corner.

I don’t think the return pump is adjustable (although welcome to advice if it is!) and I have the wave maker on the lowest possible frequency, but still my clowns struggle. They huddle in their sleeping corner when it’s on, but venture out and seem calmer when it’s off.

What am I doing wrong? Are there any better locations?

Those are not typhoon strength powerheads. I would think the clowns are adjusting rather than struggling, every time you adjust it they will hunker down for a moment, mine do that too. Some folks keep very high flow in their tanks. The rockwork breaks up a lot of the flow and they will adjust and find a spot they like. We should set the flow in a way that eliminates as many dead flow spots as possible, not in a way to accomodate the fish.

Your set up looks good to me, the powerhead should be angled upwards for surface agitation as you have it now, and I would place the other powerhead on the opposite side beside the return, angled up if you can but I'm not sure if those jebao are adjustable. Good luck
