Not a fan of the gyres, maybe someone else will chime in on that. I have the Nero 3 & 5 in my tank, which is why I lean towards the SLW.
What’s your opinion on the gyres? Why not a fan?
kind of new to the gyres so anything helps!

I've been running a SLW 20 in my 47 bow front (36" tank) for a few months now, no issues, decent flow. Its not the only pump in the tank, I use it at fairly low power to eliminate dead spots behind my rock work. My main flow pumps are a pair of Jebao RW/PP 8s.

Depending on the corals you want to keep I would say a single SWL 20 will not be enough for a 4 foot 55 gal. A single SWL 30 might do, but two SWL 20 would be better (over your budget). The older RW/PP pumps are a good option, I get a few years out of them. I have stuck with them because I can control them from my APEX. The newer Jebao pumps like the SWL with the SineWave controls are not 0-10v controllable.
