Went into a chain saltwater store

I once asked for live brine shrimp at a large chain pet store and the girl told me "no we don't carry anything like that, you would have to get that from a bait shop". I'd like to see the size of the hook used to bait a brine shrimp. I kept my composure, noded my head and walked out of the store...never to return.

Went into a Petco tonight to pickup some frozen mysis and checked out their saltwater section it was horrible. Red and brown algae everywhere horrible water quality. Fish were barely moving. The anenomes were all upside down. A tang was loosing scales and looked awful. I almost was in tears for the poor fish. I called petco corporate and reported it to them. They assured me they would have someone on it immediately. They mentioned I should check back in a week or two and call back in to report. I surely will. They were very apologetic and concerned. I hope they send someone quick before they lose everything.

Some places do replace the ocean rock every 6 months!

You need to tie it onto a fly hook. Freshly hatched. And make sure to use a 1 ft steel leader for the northern pike you are about to catch.

I prefer to catch my brine by a spear.

I was thinking of setting up a rod for plankton, but I couldn't find a large enough string guage for a whale.

nobody wants to publicly bash anyones business, it may not be the same opinion or experience had by all. but in this case you can see that there are no posiitives coming from this place

Well....that is unless you worked for a LFS, they got you interested in the hobby and then you quit because you found out the owner was not only cutting corners on maintenance, but doing things like telling his employees to use buffers and things from off the sale floor, topping them back off with water, and putting them back up for sale.

That is really bad. What store is this so I never go there?

You won't have to worry unless you're planning on swinging through Montana anytime soon. I'm not going to give too much info because I used to work there, plus he's never going to ship anything anyway. He'll drive his business into the ground before then...he's already started to. Just a pain because there aren't too many LFS's in Montana, the next closest is 2 hours away and barely better, and I refuse to buy from him. I'd rather deal with having to pay shipping prices than support his business and the way he runs it.

That being said anyone looking to open a store should come to Montana. There isn't much competition and the competition that is here is terrible anyway.

I only replace after every 8 months and it works well for me. The thing is, it is hard to get my acros to start encrusting again,
after I break them off with a monkey wrench. Then, I can't remember the exact location I had the coral to begin with. But my fish
really seem to enjoy the excitement of the whole event.

LOL!!!! This is exactly what I was going to say!

Owners response to that:
"That is fine because the chemicals will spread like bacteria and be whole again. The water just adds shelf life, and besides, if you need calcium just pour some milk in your tank."

Haha, yup. Fish need milk so they grow up big and strong. I pour my corals a glass of O.J. every morning too, you know, for the Vitamin C.
