Hey R2R!

Been a minute since I needed a critter ID, noticed a few of these popped up in my sump, haven’t seen them up top in the display though. Anyone know what it is?

Yeah. Hoping they aren’t the kind that eat SPS, although only in my sump to my knowledge. Not sure if they can make it up into the display. Also found this today.. pretty sure it’s a stomatella.

Yep! Pink and Black are the more common ones.

This is what I was hoping I had when I found the limpets yesterday haha. Went to check on them again and saw a white blob on the front of my sump, was this guy. Unfortunately if I put him up top my wrasses will likely devour them. I needed cuc for my sump anyways

Yep! I had several hundred in my tank. Halichoeres wrasses love them. I now have 0...

I bet the halichoeres has a full belly though XD took me a minute to figure out the correlation between my bloated looking Melanarus and the ever growing amount of empty shells, now I’m replenishing with more trochus and Mexican turbos. Flip that

I had a melanurus and a leucoxanthus and then added a Macropharyngodon meleagris and a Halichoeres garnoti!

I've found that Trochus are a good one because they can and do breed and they're not as easy for the wrasses to get to. Nerites seem to be almost bulletproof when it comes to wrasses but the eggs rarely hatch and I've never seen babies.

Well don't tell anyone but your tank is bigger than mine. Although I didn't have the garnoti in this one, just the other 3.

Ohh so you’re saying it’s a possibility 🧐😄
The Macropharyngodon meleagris wrasse stay on the smaller side. I also have my Halichoeres leucoxanthus and had my Halichoeres melanurus in this tank before the melanurus passed from old age.

If you have enough sand for another sand sleeper, a Leopard is a good candidate in my opinion. Just keep an eye on it if you do, because some melanurus wrasses are known to be bullies. Mine wasn't but it sounds like he was more the exception than the rule.

I’ve got about 3” of sand all around… I’ve got a female Melanarus, she’s never shown any aggression towards any other tank mates that I’ve seen.. only rivalry I see in my tank is between my foxface and starry blenny. They are not fans. But if kept well fed they don’t bother each other

Interesting. My melanurus was already transitioning when I got him. My Foxface left my Starry alone but the Tomini would chase the Starry around until the Foxface gave him "the look" at which point he'd run over to the Foxface and swim around with him all buddy buddy like.

If she's still a female, now would be the best time to add one of you're considering it.

I’m unsure how to tell tbh, I had purchased it as a female, and my red fin fairy as a male. I’m just assuming it’s stayed that way. Might give it a shot if I can find the right one.
