Afr, kalk top off.. he does use zeobak, food and bacto balance also. But it’s pretty simple to say the least!Gorgeous tanks.always nice to see his posts on instagram.deceptively simple system too.just run off AFR I believe.
Have you tried filling the pieces with missing flesh to check for pests? The very first one looks like it had that sps bubbling disease which nobody has a cure for… I wouldn’t dip them all cause most likely it will take them out since they’re not doing well but maybe one to check for worms. The others with less pe you claim look good to me and happy for the time being. Here are the pieces that had some tissue loss![]()

and then here is the two pieces that have far less PE![]()

I’m typically not on the weekends but have been this weekend haha!Ok maybe you just have lives..........
I’d say get your numbers where you like them then start the bacto balance.. it contains n&p so it doesn’t bottom out.. my nutrients run low again for some reason so I had to up my ammonia dose.Question about Bactobalance if you don't mind. I have been dosing N and P off and on for over a year to try and keep numbers off of zero. I started dosing ammonium bicarb 2/1/25 daily then after a week or so I just started adding a 10ml dose randomly depending on my test results. I did my weekly tests this morning and I'm liking my N and P numbers and am wondering if those if you with more experience think now would be a good time to start bacto balance or should I just keep up with the ammonium dosing? I do 2g weekly water changes on 65g total to vacuum detritus so I'm not really depending on changes to control nutrients. I run a reefmat and no skimmer or fuge and the tank still has always run pretty much as a ULNS on jts own.
N amd P test since starting ammonium.

I have looked at them in hand, with lights on in the tank and after lights out and have not noticed any pest. All these pieces are aquaculture from either WWC, another local LFS, local hobbyist or battlecorals so I feel really confident I have not introduced anything like black, red, white bugs or AEFW. Only dip I have is revive from Julian (two little fishies) not sure if that’s what you would recommendHave you tried filling the pieces with missing flesh to check for pests? Revive is good I use it… a less harmful approach would be hitting them with a turkey baster and seeing if anything comes off them into the water column.. bugs are hard to see the worms are much easier. I don’t see any eggs in your photos so that’s good! How’s the flow in the tank?I have looked at them in hand, with lights on in the tank and after lights out and have not noticed any pest. Same, but im/was workingI’d say get your numbers where you like them then start the bacto balance.. it contains n&p so it doesn’t bottom out.. my nutrients run low again for some reason so I had to up my ammonia dose.
Flow is good I have two jebao sow-8s that do 2250gph at full speed, I’m running like two notches down from that, and a Nero 5 on random between 30-45%. If it were me, I wouldn’t switch to LED lights. You just need to add an Alibaba LED strip if you want to slightly boost the PAR and color effects.dang that’s crazy, I have a power module and I’m thinking about switching to LEDs because if I don’t keep my house below 70 degrees my tank temp will creep up to 83-84.
I can’t find the post but @SunnyX had posted the Long Island or manhattan aquarium or something along those lines he got a tour of! It was a gigantic reef tank 20,000 gallons or something crazy ran off kalk and metal halides.. maybe he will chime in.

I use chemicals to mix the three major elements to supplement.

I didn’t use ICP at first, until my coral tank was hit hard about four years ago and many corals died.
Then I realized that it is difficult to judge the amount of trace elements by the color of the coral.
