I definitely think the aesthetic/color of the aquarium stand matters. I purchased a custom stand for my IM Nuvo Fusion 40 which roughly matches the wood floors in the room where I have my tank. I think it makes sense to try and match the decor of the room as it allows the tank itself to be the focal point without the stand being distracting if the colors clashed.

My stand is whatever color old pallet wood is considered. Idc what color my stand is but my wife is going through a rustic stage so she wanted me to skin it with pallet wood. On a positive note with it being rustic the craftsman ship (in regards to looks not structure) doesn't matter a much. My cat uses one corner as a scratching post, which IMO just makes it all that much more rustic.

If I had my choice I'd go with white.

I went with flat black with no fancy-pants molding. Just a plain-Jane stand. I wanted people to see the tank and not take note of the stand with it being colorful and overly ornate.

Yes, I think the stand should either match the room, or be completely different to stand out.

As much as I prefer natural wood paint is great if one what's a change.

I built my stand out of file cabinets, painted it white for a clean look, and made the countertop with a white marble pattern laminate. I went with white on the top because I figured salt would show less than it does on black.

Then to make it fun, I painted the trim and the drawer handles with a color shifting paint.

Color of the tank stand was super important! Only way my wife would let me put my tank near the newly remodeled kitchen was if it somewhat matched our new cabinets.

So I used Rust-Oleum's furniture transformations kit to rehab a used stand and make it look like our new cabinets.

Mines a plain ol black standard stand that came with the 36 bow front , though if I could I would paint it some shade of turquoise.

Black -- to match the rest of the furniture in the room, including a massive bookcase. But also because I have a four-year-old who likes to follow me around and do everything that I do. I can cope with wiping fingerprints off of black, where it isn't very noticeable, but if I had white or a light color I would be irritated by every speck. Heaven forbid sticky fingers or marker. My ex had this bad boy in our home for six years and I never told him, but I hated it.

I think it depends on where you are putting the tank and how it looks in the room. For example, if I was putting it in the garage, an open stand, no doors would be just fine. Since we were putting ours in our family room, I needed it to match the other furniture to keep the wifey happy. So I built mine skinned in solid Alder, stained in Mohagany. I also found hardware that looked similar to our coffee table.

All of mine are currently black but I agree with the concept that it should match the furniture in the rest of the room. My OCD/ADHD butt would not let me have some thing that stuck out.

1. What color is your aquarium stand and why did you choose that color?
Black. It was the only one available at the LFS (didn’t want to buy something too bulky online).

2. Do you think the color of your aquarium stand is important? Why or why not?

Not really. It bugs me occasionally because the solid coloration does not match the wooden textured furniture in the same room, but I usually do not mind.

For me, the color of the stand was definitely important, and I went with white. The white stand kinda blends into my white apartment walls, and helps to give the illusion that it takes up less space than it does. I really like the clean, modern look. I live in an NYC studio/jr 1 bedroom apartment so every decorating consideration includes giving the illusion of more space than there is.

If I had it to do over again, I would have done a white stand. I currently have black. The main issue is every fingerprint and dust of salt creep show up like a flashing neon light.
In general, I think the stand should blend in as much as possible with the surrounding environment of the home. The display should demand attention, not the stand.
