I'm in my first house that I own so I can now do things how I want. Although I feel Im limited to where I can setup a rodi system due to needing a water line and drain in the same area. I was thinking about tapping into the water line going to the hot water tank in my garage but there is no drain there. So really I think Im going to install it by my washing machine and use the drain there. What do your setups look like? Here is a link and pics to what Im most likely going to do. When I need the water Ill use my 5 gallon water jugs then mix salt in them. If anyone has suggestions Ill take them.

That's about the same thing I did, except I had a laundry tub where I mounted it. If I'm doing wash, I'll put the waste line into the washer and use the water for washing clothes.

I would go with a garage setup since you have a larger tank now. You will want to mix more than 5 gallons at a time. I would get either some Brute Trash cans, or even better, wait til there is the $1 a gallon sell at Petco and get some 20 or 40 gallon tanks. You can tap into the hot water heater, and just run the waste out the door into a flower bed. Kevan just did this, and he fastened the line to wall and it is very clean, and you hardly notice it. Maybe he can post a pic.

I read in the instructions to mine that if you tap in the hot water it will mess it up I have mine in the hall closet and run the drain to the bath tub and bring a trash can in the house and fill it up

I was going to tap into the water line that is going into the hot water tank, not the water leaving the tank. So I think that would be fine that way.

I am going to go with the laundry room setup with mine when i get it. It's more convenient for me and i have a cabinet in my laundry room that it is empty so that is where i an going to store my water so it's out of sight.

Here they are.

Dale, (Superpro r2r name) helped push me into actually setting it up. I've been sitting on it for over a yr.

Kevan, can you post a pic of how the waste line is fastened to the wall and going out the garage?

Typed from my phone, because I have nothing better to do.

Waste line

I don't have to make a ton of water, so I don't have a water mixing station. I may have a line from the RO unit go to my SW barrel so it can make the water when I am not there, but not sure yet.

Mine is setup exactly like Squishie's under the kitchen sink. But... I ran the output line under the house to a T in the line. One line goes to the garage to a 32 gallon Brute trash can for storage water and the other end of the T goes directly to the sump! Give me the ability to get RO/DI water out in the garage or under the tank if needed.

Hmm makes me want to run a line under my house up to the room to where my tank is going to sit for top offs.

It works out really well, and is convenient. I think I have almost 200 feet total of 1/4" tubing running around under the house. LOL

Mine is tapped intot he CPVC under my house. I basically took a cap and drilled and threaded it and added a copper filtting and valve. it runs thru the hole in the cinder blocks in my garage and then to my unit. the good water line then runs under my workbench ot the 55 gallon drum. the waste line runs back into the crawlspace and then out one of the crawlspace vents and into the flowerbed so it waters the peach tree. when I build a pond there this coming summer, the waste will fill the pond.

I'm really thinking of running my waste line outdoors to the flower bed rather than wasting it. Looks like I'll need another 100 ft of 1/4" tubing...
