Obviously we have our own crazy terminology for equipment/livestock in this hobby.

My girlfriend seems to come up with funny names of her own for everything....

Snails: Wall suckers
Diamond Goby: Sand eater
Powerheads: Fish Fans
Copepods: Cocopods
Duncans: The hairy butthole coral
Chaeto: "The plant"

What about you guys..? Any funny nicknames your family assigns to stuff?

She just names them odd names. I have a tang named "Albert," for example. lol
I only have two clownfish. She named them "Mickey and Daisy"... And my conchs are "Ella" and "Shy guy"... (although we have no clue which one is which...)

Lol! I love this thread.
My wife calls the mandarin the "Jerry Garcia fish", which I have always loved. The long nose hawkfish is the "picnic table fish". We had a goby a long time ago that was referred to as the "Dr. Seuss" fish.
I will say that my wife has always been my biggest supporter when it comes to reefing. I was perfectly content to have a 20 gallon tank. Yet, here I am with a Waterbox 180.5.

As a newer guy to the hobby, something that has scared me is how it seems the hobby can pull you apart from your family. It's nice to hear a success story :)

My wife pretty much just calls everything some form of "thingy". I'll mention I need to go empty the skimmer cup and she'll say "oh, that bubble thingy right!"
At least she pays that much attention!
At least you are not given trouble when it needs to be emptied .

I get in trouble for washing it in the sink, tub because it smells

Don't get me wrong! She does sometimes refer to herself as a basement widow . That's where my tank is. Along with my office and man cave/jam room.
