Those used to be very common in the hobby and one of the nicest looking fish. But like Tom said, they get ugly and very big.
I used to feed them bananas.

Yes they lose those orange and black they get giant and ugly they are hard to acclimate and getting to eat. This is one of those fish that should not be sold as a pet
You can actually get them captive bred now so they are good in that respect but still get big a homely, wouldn't say ugly at least.

Mine is more freshwater... black ghost knife fish, the fish that spurred me to first join the freshwater hobby even though I liked saltwater more. But for saltwater I’d choose the polleni grouper or any fish that out grows a 30 gallon... I wish there were tiny blue throat triggers or mini emperor Angels

interesting thing, the first time I saw an emperor angel was snorkeling in the Maldives, majestic creature... it was 40cm big

I like Chevrons better as adults those lines are a metallic green you don't see much in saltwater but it doesnt photograph at all. For me it would be Pinnatus batfish hands

Grey angel...looks like a French, and then....blah; My chevron as an adult looks very plain, the stripes are dull. I have both a Juv and an adult Dragon and I like them both.

How has nobody mentioned humans. They start off adorable, fairly difficult to maintain but manageable. Then they get pimply and rebellious, the males require frequent heavy feedings during transition to adulthood. As mature adults, their good looks fade faster than angelfish.
