Long story short:
  • Day 1: Drip acclimated for 2 hours; wavemakers off for 24 hours.
  • Day 2: Wavemakers on; she floats; tumbled here and there; even at some point, it was upside down (face/mouth down on sand substrate).
  • Day 3 - 4: Stay on the sand substrate (face/mouth up).
  • Today is day 5; at dawn, I can see she attached to wall tank, but not long after, back she went on the sand substrate (face/mouth up).
Few observations:
  • Within these past 4 days, mouth is not gaping and tentacles are all bubbled (inflated); I won't say she's at the maximum inflation but definitely not stringy.
  • Foot definitely still sticky because if I soft press her to LR, she will attach but shortly, she let go.
  • Tentacles are still sticky; yesterday I fed and still taking them.
I understand she may still acclimating .. but on average, how long BTA acclimates? I mean I'm entering day 5 today ... boggles my mind .. what exactly is she doing? what does she want?

It wouldn't make any sense that she be happy on a sand substrate .. BTA normally attaches its foot onto rock crevices and not Aragonite sand substrate ..... Any idea, folks?

Sounds like she just hasn't found a spot she likes. What lighting do you have it under?

The one on your signature @crabs_mcjones

Kessil A360WE ramp up then ramp down .. max intensity 75% max color 50%.
2 foot cube tank: 2x Jebao RW15 dialled to speed 2.
No3: 20 ppm.
Alk: 10 dKH.
Salinity: 1.026.

Suggest lowering your flow...and even your lights if it doesn't work.

My nems all attach in very low flow spots literally right away. Only time one of them moves is if it is in direct path of strong flow...

Case in point... here is one of my nem grow out tanks. 6G Fluval Edge with stock HOB...they all chose spots out of direct flow.

My light is a repurposed Fluval 13.5 stock light, 14,000K @ 14W or so.

Is their a Clownfish trying to host it? If so that’s more than likely your problem IME. If not, I would turn off the flow and place the foot near a deep crevice. Wait 12hr to turn flow back on. (Keep filter running)
Good call, I didn't even thing about that.

+1 on this advice. Didn't realize there were clownfish.

Just a suggestion... if you are able to build a little cave with your rocks or rubble, do that and place your nem into the cave or near the opening.

My guess is if your nem is healthy, it'll run into the cave and stay there..

Two more examples...from my other tanks. 5 nems from different sources and each did the same

I have 4 more on their way being shipped to me... will do similar setup for them with caves to get them grooving

@NanoCrazed have to find rock rubbles then .. all my rocks in sump are big ones ... may need to break it.
so potentially baby picasso x 2 may not be the issue here right? i mean the nem is probably 5 times or 7 times bigger than them.
